I think it would work. When I hear the name I think of Reese Witherspoon or the character Reece from Malcom in the Middle. So, sure...I think it would be great for either. If you can close your eyes and picture that little boy as a Reece then it's perfect! Your opinion is the main opinion...good luck, hun!
I like it spelled Rhys. I know a little boy with this name and it suits him. I actually think of the ESPN sports anchor (male) named Rece Davis. I don't mind his spelling either and definitely prefer it to Reese/Reece which seem to be the girl spelling.
Spelled correctly...or rather, the traditional spelling Rhys I think it is a great name. I love Rhys!
It is a very common Welsh boy's name that has been used for centuries.
I hate the spellings Reece and Reese. Especially because American mothers are taking that spelling and trying to make it a girl name. It is not a girl name, for Pete's sake!
Means "enthusiasm" in Welsh. Several Welsh rulers have borne this name.
All of this. We had it on our list, spelled this way, but we decided we slightly prefer Reed. Anyway, I love Rhys for a boy, and it makes me think of the quirky actor Rhys Ifans from Notting Hill. Two thumbs up from me!
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.
My personal thought about now "unisex" names: for some reason it is ok for a girl to have a name that a boy in class has, I don't think she will be made fun of BUT I think it is a different story for boys. I feel like they would be made fun of if they had the same name as a girl in class. Fair or unfair, this is what I think happens.
ETA: Reese Witherspoon's real name is Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon. Reese is her mom's last name. It never sounded very feminine to me so it makes more sense that it was a family name.

My cousin's little boy is Reece. It got a side-eye from me.

Love Rhys for a boy. I know a few boys with this name, two spelled the traditional way and one spelled Reece -- all under the age of five. It makes me think of Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Tudors), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) and Rhys Darby (Flight of the Concords).
I like it! If you're concerned about gender confusion, as others have said you could consider the "original" Rhys spelling. Even so, I don't think teasing would be a major problem (personally I think the issue of boys being teased for having a "girly" name is overhyped).
Re: Reece for a boy??
For a boy its usually spelled the traditional way, Rhys. Like the actor Jonathan Rhys Meyer.
I only think its a no no spelled Reese/Reece.

I like the Rhys spelling.

I also think it is much too masculine for a girl.
