Pumping dip?

I am a SAHM, so while we don't give many bottles, I've been pumping at least 1x/day just to build up a bit of a stash and to be able to leave the house occasionally :). While I've never been a cow, I would usually get at least 5-6 oz (total) about an hour after I fed my DD in the morning. Now, for the past week or so, I'm lucky to get 3 oz - sometimes 2 (again - total both sides). I really don't think my supply is decreasing b/c DD hasn't wanted to eat more often, is gaining weight, has plenty of wet diapers, etc.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on why this could be happening and/or any remedies?

Gracias in advance!

Re: Pumping dip?

  • That happened to me too- I was pumping 6-7 oz in the morning and then started getting only 3 oz. My guess is your body got used to not needing to produce that much. And the pump doesn't stimulate your body like the baby does. I started drinking a beer before bed and it helped (I drink leinenkugels).

  • This happened to me at about 15-16 weeks. I spoke with my lactation consultant and she reassured me that this is supposed to happen when your supply switches from hormonally driven to demand driven. Your body starts to adjust itself to make just what your baby eats in a day. This is a good time to add an extra pumping session if you are building up a supply
