Anyone not taking a birthing class?

I ask as I  do not believe I will be taking a class, due to the following reasons

1: lack of money

2: I feel comforable in knowing what I want and don't want and believe the classes will cover mostly the same things that a: Is in my many baby books and b: was mentioned to me by my dr.

anyone else opting out of classes?

Re: Anyone not taking a birthing class?

  • nope.

I am on bed rest and have already been to the hospital, no tour needed.

I do plan to watch some DVD's with DH though.

Plus that cash is going towards her newborn photos.

  • I'm not taking classes - DH and I have just read up on different things and we are confident with our approach - i think classes would just make him panic :)

  • The only classes in our area are only offered on weekday evenings. DH and I both work mon-fri on afternoon shifts, and can't give up a days pay every week for 6 weeks.

  • We won't be either. Most of the offered classes fail to fit our schedule. The two that don't are WAY too much money for our tight budget.  So we are reading hybnobabies and watching a few DVDs from the hospital.  But we are taking a tour this Sunday.
  • I'm not taking one. Our hospital is 45 mins away and with our schedules there is no way we could go. I posted this question on July 2010 a few weeks ago meaning to post on June and alot of those ladies answered and said they weren't taking them either.
  • glad I am not the only one, reason I posted is many people think we are crazy for not going, I basically said my body will tell me what to do, along with the dr's and nurses. Which gave me even stranger looks

One family friend (who is a nurse) said the only people that dont go are hookers and druggies. which I found quite harsh! So I just lie to her and say yup we will be going.

Guess Ill be a hooker or a drug adict on my birthing day Wink

  • I'm not, I live in a small town and so the options and dates are limited. None of them really worked for us so we decided to pass. I've been doing lots of reading and feel comfortable with my doctor so I don't feel like I'm missing out on too much.

  • I actually have quite a few friends that didn't go to any. My Dr didn't make it seem like it was "the norm".. She said if I wanted to and gave me the info..
  • Not doing them either.  Didn't want to spend the money and it was hard to find a time that worked for both me and DH.  I bought a recommended video off of amazon for $15 and I'm asking lots of questions at my appts.  That's all the prep I'm gettin!

  • I skipped them with my first baby, and will skip them this time too.  And I'm a professional woman- no hooker/druggie here! Big Smile

The nurses told me exactly what to do.  and honestly, pushing a baby out is pretty intuitive.  Your body will know what to do.
