HGR: Catching Fire question (spoiler alert)

I just finished Catching Fire - please no spoliers... but I'm confused by the arena ending (Tell me if this is explained somehow in MockingJay and I should just wait.)

How did BeeTee die?  Was he trying to break the force field and it backfired? Or did someone kill him?  And what was the point of BeeTee planning the wire across the beach if they knew they were going to be extracted from the arena that night?  

I guess I'm a little confused on who was in on the extraction plan and who wasn't and why.  Was Enobaria and Brutus in on the plan or were they really trying to kill Johanna and Katniss?

    It is explained at the beginning of Mockingjay - it is supposed to be confusing at this point :) LOVE HUNGER GAMES
