Babies: 3 - 6 Months

nap habbits

Let me start of by saying I know that every baby is different.  But, I was wondering if you would tell me what your babies habbits are for naps during the day.  My daughter will be 3 months on Sunday and i feel like she needs more sleep during the day but, she fights it so hard.  Often I will just put her in her swing and she will cry until she falls asleep (often no longer than 5 to 10 min.).  What I have noticed is she doesn't have any schedule for naps during the day.  She will often get really fussy and will not stop crying no matter what (being held, eating, etc.).  Any thoughts?

  • Dominic is awake for 2 to 2.5 hours and then sleeps for an hour or so.  Is your LO gassy?  Why all the crying?

  • Is your LO getting overtired?  DD needs to go back to sleep during the day earlier than I thought when she was younger (she often was overtired when she was smaller).  She does best when she goes back to sleep about an hour after she gets up, and then she will go no longer than 1.5/2 hours between naps the rest of the day.  DD takes two shorter (30-45 minute) naps and one longer (1.5-2 hr) nap during the day.

  • Idk if you swaddle or not, but C can rarely nap without being swaddled. About 1.5 hours after he is up (but closer to an hour when he was 3 months old) or when he was showing early signs of sleepiness like rubbing his eyes or yawning, I would swaddle him, give him his binky, and turn on his mobile. He almost always fell asleep on his own. Or I would swaddle just his arms and buckle him in the swing and he would nap there. As long as I didn't keep him up too long and he had his swaddle and binky, he napped great. GL!

  • Naps didn't get better for us until 4.5 months old.  He now naps 3 times a day for anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

  • Mine HATES napping.  I'm lucky if I even get a nap out of him during the day.  Most days I can get 2 naps of about 30 mins to an hour.  Some days he takes one nap for 2-3 hours.  Some days he won't nap at all.  He's generally a happy baby unless he's hungry, so I don't worry about it.  He'll figure it out eventually.
