Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Can teething symptoms come and go?

DS will have a couple days where he is cranky, drooling, and chewing on his hands. Then he is fine for a few days, then cranky again. Can the symptoms come and go for a while before the teeth come in?

  • Yes, it's pretty common for teeth to push up, then they will recede for a little while, then push again.  This is what is happening to my little guy.

  • From what I have been told they can because the teeth can come up and down several times before breaking the skin :( sounds horrible I know and I think we have been experiencing this b/c DS will also have days like that and then be completely fine.

  • A friend of mine just told me that her DS has gone through multiple teething spells and at 10 months still doesn't have any teeth. It made me sad.

  • I'd have to say yes, because that's exactly the sort of thing thats been happening around here!

  • I don't think it's all teething either. After 3 months babies generally get interested in chewing on their hands because they gain more control over them and become more drooly while doing it, naturally. I know that DS was very drooly and chewy around 3-4 months but didn't get any teeth until 11.5 months, and he very obviously started teething around 11 months. DD is just starting that drooly, chewy phase. Some babies will get teeth this early, but some are just exploring.
