Hey ladies, we went to our first child birth class yesterday and we started talking about our hospital and the options...anyone decided they're having a water birth?
If my hospital offered it most defiantly YES! I almost wish my hospital offered it because of my pelvis issues they say water births are easier on SPD sufferers.

I plan to labor in the shower/tub at home and hopefully continue with the same at the hospital. Assuming I CAN have a water birth (there are some restrictions) and I feel good in the tub when it's time to push, I see no reason to move just to avoid a water birth. I'm not 100% planning on a water birth, but I'm not ruling it out either.

This, but I'll be at a birth center. Most people there end up delivering in the tub so I assume I'll probably be the same. But if I'm more comfortable elsewhere, then that's where it'll be. I've read it's great for pain relief during labor, the lower gravity helps a lot, and supposedly there's a lower rate of tearing.
I'm not because there is no where my insurance will cover to have a water birth, but one of my best friends did a water birth and she said she would never have a baby any other way. She said it's just fantastic! She said the lights were down low and the water was warm and it was just the perfect setting. I really think it would be super neat to give birth this way. Too bad my doctor's and insurance do not comply. I'd love to give that a shot.
I really like the idea and my hospital does offer it, however I am a bit nervous because I tend to get tired in a warm tub. I am scared that I would lose all of my energy!

I'm delivering at a hospital, but this is my plan too. I'm preparing as if I'm having a water birth (because I have to sign a release, have some extra blood testing, etc), but I'd like to keep my options open in case anything goes wrong or if I feel differently in the moment.
I used to be really into the idea. However, for multiple reasons I changed my mind. 1) I'd have to find a new doc. 2) The closest birthing center is a bit further than our hospital, and I don't feel comfortable with a home birth. 3) I'm scared of an increased risk of infection. Many medical professionals believe this to be true. However, from research I have done on the subject, there is no proof of this "increased risk" and the statistics don't support it either. Just FYI.
I say, if your center supports it, why not? I think it'd be completely different if I weren't going to a regular hospital.
How would you find out if the hospital your planning on delivering in offers water birthing as an option? Did you ask during the tour?
I'm on my hospital website but I can't see anything about allowing or not allowing a water birth.
I initially found out my hospital did them by viewing their online virtual tour and the nurse who is instructing the child birth class brought it up last night b.c our hospital requires you to ask for the water birth room bc there is a HUGE tub in there for it...otherwise you can still have a room with a tub for laboring.
I feel like you can probably call the hospital directly and see if they accomodate water births. My hospital is freaking awesome - it's the teaching hospital linked to UVM.
I would love to if my hospital offered it, however they do have showers we can use during labour and some rooms have baths we can use as well so I am defianlty going to take advantage of that.

Re: Water birth
I think the idea is totally neat. However, since I will be in a hospital and want an epidural it's probably not an option.
Watch The Business of Being Born. There one on there, maybe more. I can't recall. I watched it on demand on Netflix.
