My sister has offered to move to our city and be Connor's nanny when I go back to work in October. I'm excited about the idea of having a family member watch him during the day... she also has her Early Childhood Education diploma, first aid/cpr and experience in kindergartens/day cares/day camps. She's wanting some real work experience and she also wants to move out of our parent's house and start fresh somewhere new.
Just wondering what we should do in terms of living arrangements --
not sure if it would be worth the lack of privacy to have us living in our house for convenience sake or if she should get a place nearby?
Payment-wise...
would you pay more for this kind of care or less than a regular day care centre? I've been calling around and the day cares in our area charge about $1000/month give or take including lunch and snacks.
What about hours?
My DH works different shifts... would it make sense to hire her for M-F at a regular schedule or make her work around DH's schedule (ie. if he's home during the day, she has the day off). Is that fair to her and Connor? DH thinks it might be awkward to be home alone during the day with her and Connor, but I kind of want to keep things consistent for Connor and make sure my sis has a reliable schedule/income.
Anyone with experience in this area? Pros/cons? How did you make it work?
Re: Anyone here have a nanny? Questions...
We have a nanny, but she does not live with us. We were aware we would be paying more for one on one care. She has a regular schedule comes in at 6:30 (I have to be at work at 7:00) and leaves at around 4:30 (I usually get home a little after 4). We pay her $620 a week, and any extra hours are paid at her standard hourly rate. We are happy with the arrangement, of having LO stay home, since I came back to work when he was not even 3 MO yet. I hope this helps. He seems happy with her, when he is a little older I think we will send him to day care.
