we use gdiapers exclusively...we will try to use cloth inserts at home and flushies when out, but my sons skin was too sensitive for the cloth...but i dont consider the flushies disposables (because they are not anything like the disposable diapers) so ...
I'm doing almost only cloth. DH and I will only be using cloth but if another family member or friend is watching her and want to buy disposables to use that's fine but we will only be providing them with cloth. I got some specifically for people that are unfamiliar with cloth.
we're cloth but I know maybe two other families IRL that use cloth. It's such an uneducated subject outside of the Bump I think. I'm shocked how many people here are using CD's too. Yay!
I was actually excited to see a CD article and a few advertisements in one of the Mom mags this month. One of the ladies over on the CD board even came across some CD's at Walgreens in her area and another at Kroger.
There is just so many misconceptions. Like the laundry thing. It's only about 2-3 extra loads a week depending on how big the stash.
Funny comment from DH's co-worker after DH tells him we're using cloth and that I want to be "all green and stuff". Which isn't my only primary reason actually. Co-worker says "oh yeah, she'll be seeing lots of green". Ha! Dumb comment but it still made me laugh. lol
I vote disposables because that is what we're starting out with. I have heard the horrors of a million newborn diaper changes. We will reevaluate around month 1 and I'll buy CD's if we want to give it a go.
Remember the bump is not a good representation of the mommy world at large. Women on the bump come here seeking additional information and tips from other moms, which automatically makes them/us a niche group. Lots of things that seem super common here aren't really that common in the general population.
I think I could possibly be swayed if I knew someone in real life that use them and could show me... Although - I agree with PP - Laundry and I are not the best of friends... I do laundry once a week right now.. Usually I spend all day Sunday doing laundry. That's already going to change when LO comes... and add in one or two more times with CD's then I think my head may explode.. lol

i started cd with dd1 about a year ago, and it's really so easy, and strangely addicting, that i can't imagine going back to disposables even though i did it with my first two.
i' m so excited to be having another baby to try out cd'ing from newborn stage... as a matter of fact out of all the baby stuff i've gotten, my new cd's are my favorite by far

We are using disposables for a few weeks to start. My stash is mostly One Size which wont fit for a little while. I didn't want to invest in a newborn stash that she would grow out of and it be all prefolds which would scare DH away. Our main stash is prefolds and pockets, easier for DH. I do have some Thirsties Duo's though so we may be able to start her a little sooner than when the one size's fit. I am fine with disposables for a few weeks. I figure getting the hang of BF'ing and being a Mom will be enough for me to begin with.

I'm not trying to sway you but thought I would mention that it seems like CD'ing can require more trial and error. Something as simple as changing detergents could have made all the difference. Just a thought :-)

I'm doing cloth. I wish I had done it with my other kids, it would have been even more cost effective. I've been thinking that I need to have another baby after this one just so I get to use them again! lol
I only know a couple parents that CD now (and I just met them, actually) but at least half the expectant parents I know are planning on CDing - and I know a lot of pregnant women! I think it's becoming more popular. I even know one mom who's going to give it a shot with her 3rd child, who's on the way. Well, once she sees how it goes for us, anyway.
I actually decided to start from the newborn stage because of all the diaper changes. 12-24 dipes a day? Yowza - that really adds up, cost-wise!

this is SO true. I considered it but we got SO many dipes at the shower, a friend gave me a bunch after her son grew out of them and I stocked up on a few packs on Amazon a while back I figured I'd better use them. I'm hoping the Duos get her into them a bit early though just because I'm excited to use cloth. ha
I'm loving the results of this poll! I know it's not representative of the population at large but it still gives me warm fuzzies.
me too! I stopped telling people IRL because of the negative comments from those who "just don't know". Glad to see it looks like it's becoming more popular.
I commented a local boutique in my town on CD's on their FB wall because they are starting to carry them and wanted brand ideas. I got two messages from girls in my area wanting to chat CD's. One a girl I had classes with in High School who uses them for her first and is expecting her second, due date four days after mine. Thought that was pretty cool.

I bet you'll be able to use those Duos pretty quickly, I have a bunch and I'm hoping to be able to use them from birth (but I have fitteds & prefolds in case they don't fit). And yeah, if I already had some newborn sposies, I might consider using them in the first couple days, just so as not to have to do the laundry. My mom will be there and probably volunteer to do it, but I'd be worried about her doing it wrong!

thank you, yes we tried switching detergents, even using soap nuts which are supposed to be super gentle...i tried just washing in hot water, stripping...everything, but i didnt try different types of cloth, so this time we will have a variety of fabrics to try...thankfully ds is potty trained now, so i dont have to worry about him anymore. i do a lot of volunteering for gdiapers so i get great deals on the flushies and shop the sales on them like crazy so i pay way less for diapers then i would if i were using sposies, the cost is still more then cloth since im constantly replenishing but we compost the wet diapers and flush all the poopies so i feel much better about our choice.
We're using a cloth diaper service while we build up our own stash, so while we'll be primarily using cloth, when he goes to someone else's place, we'll be using disposibles.
Not only are people less comfortable with cloth, I don't want to risk them losing/throwing out diapers from the diaper service, and costing us extra money.

Pretty much exactly this, except that I'm planning on using all pockets and no prefolds (DH wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole and I'd rather not bother myself).

w/ DD1 we did a mix of CD and Disposables (but always made our own wipes or used reusable wipes too)... and CDing was so easy and great for her tush (less rashes, irritation, etc)... so babe #2 will be exclusively CDed Excited! Good for the environment, wallet, and babe.

I hate laundry SO much, I will use disposable. LOL
(I have with all my kids)

I found youtube to be a great help.

There are also lots of other great resources. I actually didn't know that the IRL acquaintances used them until after we made the jump to.
