Trouble TTC

PCOS & 25.5% Motility?

I got our RE referral today. We also received DH?s SA results. Everything was great except motility. He?s low ? 25.5%. Coupling that with my PCOS, we?re a bit nervous.

From what I?ve seen online, IUI is not recommended with motility so low. Most doctors go straight to IVF. I realize I will need to talk with my RE in regards to what is best for our specific scenario, but was wondering if anyone can offer some insight.

I guess I?m looking for personal experiences that are similar and what your treatment path has been thus far.

Re: PCOS & 25.5% Motility?

  • I have PCOS as well, and my husband's motility was 27%.  My husband is going to talk to a urologist tomorrow to see if there is anything he can do to increase the numbers, but if not my RE is having us do IUI.

  • My DH also has LOW motility with a normal count and normal morphology and we went straight for IVF - I start my BCP this month for the cycle in May. Our RE said IUI was a "possibility" but for a higher success rate, they said IVF would be a better option! Hope this helps! Good luck! <3<3

  • My husband has normal count and similar motility. It really depends on the quality of the motile sperm. DH's uro helped us determine that while he had low quality motile sperm IUI would be our best place to start.

I would definitely have him do a repeat SA and get a referral to a urologist. All info is helpful!

Unless IVF is covered by your insurance I would recommend trying IUIs first. Even though these first few didn't work for us it'snice knowing we tried everything! You never know!

  • I have PCOS and dh's 1st SA he had 27% motility and 1% morphology. With that data alone we were good IUI candidates.

He since got a 2nd SA done (which I recommend y'all do) and his #'s improved. His morph was normal and motility was only slightly low.

As long as the total count was still good, then 25ish% is still something that can be worked with in regards to IUI. Good luck!
