How old is your Dyson? I have an older model that has a tube near the bottom that will collect large things, like french fries lol. It has tabs around it that you press to release the tube, then you can dump the contents out. Have you checked the roller to make sure that it isn't completely wrapped up in hair? Also check all of the seals in the tubing. Usually when I do once over with these three things, I catch the problem.

I'm not sure how old...........I'll have to try to see if I can find the receipt.......or will Dyson know?
I know how the tube you are talking about....it got clogged before and it effected the hose's suction.
Well what happened is.....I sprinkled the carpet freshener stuff on the carpet and it won't pick it up at all! The hose will but not the base.

That sounds like it could be a suction problem somewhere between where the hose is hooked up and the rest of the tubing to the base. Or, maybe the filter is clogged?
I'm sure that Dyson could help you figure out how old your vacuum is. I'm not sure where the serial numbers are located. Here is the website with the number to call, if you haven't looked it up already. Dyson support
I was having the same issue and took out the manual to see if there was some troubleshooting I could do. After reading it, I realized there is a filter that is supposed to be cleaned every 6 months (I had the vac about 3 years, at that time....opps!). It easy to get to and you just rinse it out and let it dry for a day. After I did this, it was back to normal.
