We found out recently that I'm having a girl. DH started calling my bump "Ripley" - it was a joke we had a few years ago after watching the Aliens movie that we'd call our first baby girl Ripley after Sigourney Weavers character in the movie. Hence my username. Its just been a running joke between us for ages and at first we were both laughing about it. He continued to call her Ripley and now I think he really likes the name and is considering it, even asking me if I liked the spelling "Ripli" better - as I'd used it in my username on here - to make it more feminine sounding.
I'm kinda bewildered that its gone from our stupid joke to him really actually liking it.
Thoughts?
Re: Thoughts on Ripley
Please don't do that to a baby girl It is masculine, a surname, and the meaning sucks.
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English (Rare)
Pronounced: RIP-lee [key]
Yeah. I don't think he cares though....

this was the first thing i thought of too. i don't like it.
Believe it or not, this is a horrible name for a girl. HORRIBLE!
Go with Riley, if you must.
ETA: Changing the spelling of a name does not make it more feminine. It just makes it misspelled!
Agreed. Also, if you were naming a dog it would be perfect.

I don'e like it, believe it or not!
This was my thought too. Perhaps another "R" name too.
This! If he must use the name, get him a puppy!
PAL/PGAL Welcome
So bad. Please don't. Alien would be better.
Three Girls: Bits 2/08 Biscuit 10/09 & Sweet Chuck 2/12

THIS THIS THIS !!!!!!!!!
PS - my husband calls my bump "the parrot" but I'm not going to name my daughter Parrot, nor am I going to call her Polly (like a friend suggested) just because that's what he calls her in utero! Sheesh!
Talk him out of this quick! And find a real girl's first name.
"Believe it or not," this is a bad choice for your child.
Ripli is even worse, and is not feminine. It's just misspelled and bizarre (perfectly fine for a username---not at all okay for a real person's name).
I think you need to keep this in the joke category.
If I met a child named Ripley I'd be giving the parents massive side eye for such a terrible choice in name. If this child turned out to be a girl, I'd want to shake those parents and yell "What on earth were you thinking????". If the name was spelled Ripli I'd skip the shaking and go right to wanting to stab them with a very dull butter knife for doing something so horrible to their daughter.
This name needs to stay an affectionate joke for your bump while you look elsewhere for an appropriate name for your daughter.
honestly if you have to ask this as a serious question, i cant even respond.
oh, wait i know you can name her...Riplee or Ripleigh...that would make it ok!
lol no, don't give more spelling ideas! Spelling it Ripli does not make it feminine sounding, as the sound would not change, it does however make you look illiterate.
My thoughts exactly. And ripli is even worse. Eeeek!
I like it. Would first think of the alien movies and that you were fans. But at least spell it correctly.

My first thought.
