Re: getting baby to switch days and nights

  • Practically every baby (I'm sure there's one exception out there...) has their nights and days confused in the beginning.  I was told to keep it light, bright and loud during the day, basically living life normally, and keep it dim, quiet, with little interaction at night.  Eventually DC will get this figured out.  I think with DS it took about 3 weeks.  Just don't try to keep your baby awake- it is usually the case that sleep begets sleep, and at this age really all DS was doing was eating, pooping and sleeping.  He has beautiful blue eyes I barely saw until he was a month old!  Good luck.

  • I feel your pain. My DD did the same thing until she was about 6 weeks old. She seemed to snap out of it on her own all of a sudden, but I did try things like keeping her up more during the day. This is tricky b/c if they get too tired, they can't go to sleep at night either. I also tried to establish a night time routine and help her distinguish night from day so she learned that night was for sleeping. So, when she got up for night feedings, I wouldn't talk to her or play with her. I kept lights off and just changed her diaper, fed her and put her down. It will get better, so hang in there. I know how tired it makes you.
