switching formula from gs to alimentum???

hello ladies, so i took dd to the dr today bc im just so frustrated w her constantly dry skin that seems rash-like and itchy. whenever i have mentioned or dr has seen it before, its kind if just been written off as sensitive skin. i only use free and clear products and slather her in aquafor always. today, dr thinks it may be an allergy and would like us to start using alimentum or nutramigen. has anyone had a similar situation? have you ever changed formula at 6 months? do i just switch or mix together to change gradually? tia. sorry for lack of caps. on iphone w one hand.

Re: switching formula from gs to alimentum???

  • We switched to Alimentum all at once (at 4 months) and he was fine with it.  He had pretty bad rashes on his face, was always rubbing his eyes and scratching his head.  The formula switch plus some hydrocortisone ointment made an immediate difference.  Aquaphor didn't do anything for DS and we tried that for a couple weeks.  Good luck, I hope her skin clears quickly.

  • We switched to alimentum all at once at about 4 months as well for DS's eczema.  I'm not sure if it's been the switch in formula or the fact that we started using Aveeno Baby eczema lotion but his skin is about 95% better!

  • We switched to Alimentum pretty early on.  It was just cold turkey.  She didn't like the Alimentum at first, but now she drinks it w/o problem.  I will say that it does have a really strong smell so be prepared for that.  As for the rash, she did have the rash when she was on regular formula and when we tried switching her.  I was told not to put anything on it.  It dried up and peeled off her face in less than a week after I stopped putting moisturizer on it.  Good luck with the formula switch.
  • We switched from Goodstart to Alimentum all at once.  E didn't have dry skin quite as bad, but she had very bad gas, reflux and was spitting up everything.  It took about two or three weeks, but it has helped tremendously and she has finally been able to get off her medication (Prevacid 15mg) and her skin has improved (with the help of Aveeno Baby Excema lotion).  GL!
