My midwife suspects that I have a silent UTI. I have been having a lot of cramping/contractions lately. Sometimes its quite painful. She did a urine test strip and suspects a UTI. The only way to confirm it though is to do a urine culture, which requires a lab, so she can't do it I need a DR. Of course though, the doctors are on strike ( I don't live in America, and yes, they can do that here). So the clinic told me they can't do anything for me until the strike is over. My midwife told me to just constantly be drinking water with fresh lemon juice in it. But I am freaking out a bit. Did anyone else have a UTI? What do you do for it?

Re: UTI while preggers?
Wow... I can't even imagine doctors going on strike! How scary. What happens when a woman goes into labor? Or someone needs emergency surgery??
Anyway, back to your question. I would drink a ton of water and I'm trying to remember if it's cranberry juice you drink for a UTI. I believe it is.
I've had UTI's before, although not while pregnant.
Drink lots of water.
Cranberry juice with no sugar or additives might help.
If they have AZO that would be great https://www.azoproducts.com/products/azo_cranberry
It should be at a pharmacy or Walgreen's-type place.
Is there any sort of professional where you're at other than doctors that is able to prescribe antiobiotics? I just went through three different ones to try to beat the UTI I had. Amoxicillian is what finally ended up working.
I've suffered from UTIs all my life and in addition to drinking cranberry juice and water...stay away from tomato based products like ketchup, tomato sauce, pasta sauce. Steer clear of anything spicy and if you didn't give up caffeine completely while pregnant, give it up now.
Definitely pee anytime you feel the urge, even if it's a trickle. You want to flush your system as much as possible. HTH!

I am on amoxicillin now after the last antibiotic didn't get rid of it. I agree about the probiotic, look for one that has bacteria in the billions rather than millions.
I think eventually you will need an antibiotic though. You don't want to risk a kidney infection. A lot of the natural things I used to do for uti's aren't safe during pregnancy, unfortunately!
