Re: What are you packing in your hospital bag???

  • That all sounds good to me. I never thought of the lip balm. Good idea.

  • My thoughts on the list above:

     - 2-3 pairs of warm, non-skid socks that can get ruined - my hospital had these

    - a warm robe or sweater - I never felt cold during labor or in the days following it - quite the opposite actually... but good to be prepared.

    - 2 maternity bras - Didn't wear one until I went home.... recommend a sleep/nursing bra as they're the comfiest - might be good to pack some nursing pads just incase you're leaking... on that note, don't forget some lanolin (I liked the medela brand)

    - lip balm  -- this will be at the top of my list this time around!

    - change for vending machines - our L&D unit had a fridge and icemachine so you could bring in snacks for dad and clear liquids for yourself... ask the nurses before you go in.

    - extra pillows (with colored pillow cases)  I brought two pillows and extra pillowcases...

    - slippers - didn't use them, used the non-skid socks.

-magazines and books -- didn't use these either

    - ruin-able nightgowns -- blood, blood, blood - I didn't wear anyting but the hospital supplied gowns, plus they were easiest to nurse in also.

    - breast pump -- recommend checking with the hospital to see if they have a pump.  I didn't bring mine and then ended up needing to use it when my son wouldn't latch on.  I used the hospital grade one which was nice and was able to bring home the accessories/parts that are for individual use (sheilds, tubes, valves, etc.) so it was nice, I had spare set of medela parts.  Truth be told, I had the "Medela pump in style advanced" which was wonderful to me for 16 months, but it doesn't measure up to that hospital grade one.

Don't forget your camera, etc.  Other than that, you really don't need that much!  They supply you with everything!!

    - breast pump Personally I would not bring this

Another thing I would add, which I guess it would go along with toiletries would be those face wipe things. While I was in labor I couldn't get up to wash my face, and these were a life saver!

  • Good start. I'm assuming you're bringing a separate bag for baby stuff?

My list so far (I just added a couple of things from your list, lol)

Pajamas (I prefer to wear my own after delivery)

    bras/undies (or Depends)

    ipod

    ereader

toiletries: soap, shampoo/cond. toothbrush/paste, deoderant, hairbrush, razor, makeup

    camera

    going home clothes

    baby clothes/ car seat

    slippers or new flip flops

    change

    pony tail holders

    chapstick

    phone/charger

debating bringing my laptop. I'm hoping for an iphone for Mother's Day so I can take and post pics on-line right away. lol

  • I will also add, if you are planning on bringing phones, camera, video camera. Make sure you bring extra batteries and cords/chargers. When DS was born I thought we changed the batteries in our camera and they died after only taking one picture of DS after he was born:( Luckily we had the video camera, but I still was not able to get some still pictures that I wanted till my dad came to visit a couple hours later.

I agree 100% with all of this but I did wear some of my own clothes the second day after my shower. I brought old pants and a shirt. I love sleep bras lived in them until about a week later when I went out and bought nursing bras. Didn't use lanolin really at all the whole 12 months. Still have it though. I brought just my maternity sleep pillow no others they had plenty. Also Dh packed a small bag but went home to shower, pick up food for himself, and things we needed from the house while baby and I rested. We do live only 10 mins from the hospital so that might be feasible for everyone.

  • I am bringing my Boppy pillow as well.  It was great to have while in the hospital when i had DD.

We will bring some movies this time too, our hospital has dvd players in all the rooms and it might be a nice distraction while in labor.

  • My take on "The List" LOL

-Insurance info, hospital forms and birth plan (if you have one)

    - 2-3 pairs of warm, non-skid socks that can get ruined- My hospital also had them

  • not sure if it's been mentioned here but Boppy and the Baby Book for footprints...
  • my take on the list

    imagenewmomat33:

According to the Bump's App "Pregnancy Buzz", we should pack the following

    - Insurance info, hospital forms and birth plan (if you have one)

    - 2-3 pairs of warm, non-skid socks that can get ruined: my hospital had these for me if/when i wanted them

    - a warm robe or sweater: i was never cold, infact i was incredibly warm, but they had blankets and hospital gowns that worked just fine for me, why take something that i may bleed all over and have to take home and wash when i can leave the laundry to the hospital

    - 2 maternity bras: i took one, well actually it is what i wore into the hospital, i didnt wear a bra while in the hospital, just the gowns so i wore the same bra home that i wore into the hospital

    - lip balm: yes

    - toiletries: yes, especially shower stuff, i didnt take makeup becuase i couldnt see a big reason why after just having a baby id want to put makeup on, i was tired and sore and could have cared less

-headband or ponytail holders: i took a few

    - pen and paper: eh, they have this there if you want it, but having it wont hurt either

    - change for vending machines: we took lots of change but when we wanted food we just ordered food from the cafe to our room for dh and i, it was actually really good!

    - cell phone and charger: YES!

    - gym bag packed with a change of clothes and hygiene products for your partner: YES

    - extra pillows (with colored pillow cases): no way, again im going to leave the laundry to the hospital, if you need more pillows ask your nurses for them

    - comfy clothes to wear home (maternity clothes): might i suggest a dress? its actually all i could wear for a while

    - bath towels for partner: not a bad idea, but my dh would run home and shower and take a nap if he really needed it (i actually made him go becuase we had a long rough night one night) but if he had wanted to shower at the hospital i bet the nurses would have brought him an extra towel

    - slippers: the hospital socks were non-skid and were all i needed

    - MP3 player: yes, but i actually never got mine out of my bag

-magazines and books: eh, i took lots of stuff to do thinking it would be nice while laboring and then while in postpartum, didnt touch any of it! while in labor i was focusing on getting through each contraction (maybe if i had gotten the epi more then an hour before i ended up in the c/s it would have been different)

-massage oils: eh, a bottle of lotion, or nothing, again i dont think i really used anything, plus the nurses found little travel bottles of lotion for me to use

    - ruin-able nightgowns: why bring my own growns when i can use the hospitals? and you can request to wear 2 gowns (1 on the right way and 1 on backwards so your back end is covered when you get out of bed)

    - breast pump: i took mine, but the hopsital gave me one to use while in there, check with your hospital and see if they have pumps available for patients to use.

another thing people will say to bring is underwear and pads--the hospital will provide these for you and trust me you will bleed all over them, dont bring your own, and any time you can get extras of both and put them in your bag to go home!

take an outfit for baby to wear home, but in the hospital they will wear hospital clothes and use hospital blankets.

  • toiletries, clothes, purse, baby outfit, flipflops...thats really all you need.
