He's been a wheezy mess for 4 days, we're nebulizing him like crazy. Went in this morning and he sounded clear (of course) but they gave an rx for prednisone to help cut the pop-rocks breathing. Trouble is, he's already an angry pain in the ass some days, I don't need him MORE aggressive... gah.
Would you do it??? THIS is when I want a parenting handbook. LOL
Re: To give DS prednisone, or not to give it...
Hmmmm
Since he was clear, I'd probably hold off. DD and DS both had a nasty cough with such a bad junky sound. Their breathing I thought for sure was bad, but I took them to the doctor and they both sounded clear. Just when I thought they sounded worse, they turned a corner. Both of them were better by days 4-5.
If it were me, I'd keep up the neb treatments and throw in some mucinex (that's what I did for E&J).
I hope he feels better soon. Actually, all of you!
Thanks girlie. I am so sick of this!! I've been out of it & sick for a week & a half, I still have a fever. I LOOVE my asthma inhaler right now lol
I'm leaning toward waiting, idk.
Does he have asthma? If yes, I'd give it to him (as much as I HATE saying that!). DS1 has asthma and we just finally gave in a little over a week ago - he had a 5 day burst b/c we were doing nebs like there was no tomorrow and not getting anywhere. I go to ALL LENGTHS to not give it to him b/c he's the devil when he's on steroids. But he was not improving and the last night before we started the Pred we were doing nebs like every 2 hours. It was out of control
I have to say that for whatever reason, he was the least aggressive that he has ever been on oral steroids this time. Not sure why we lucked out, but we did (he didn't even wet the bed which he does EVERY time he takes Pred). It's an evil medicine, but if he really needs it, it's worth it. We were at that point... soudns like you might be too.
Good luck!!!
I'm so sorry you guys are still sick!!! I hate what Prednisone does to me, so I would have a hard time giving it to my child. (would not want to deal with a little version of what I'm like when I'm on it!) But if he is really, really miserable, I'd do it.
I would give it. Prednisone has been a miracle drug for DD's asthma exacerbations. She doesn't wheeze but has horrible coughing fits. I honeslty don't notice a behavior change and she's been on it many times.
