Joanna Jane?

Mom suggested Joanna Jane and DH likes this now! - I will probably add it to the list that you all have suggested I bring with us to the hospital but only after reading some thoughts on it. Here is the reasoning behind the name: Joanna because of the meaning- God is gracious (we are fairly religious and it took us quite a long time and multiple "assists" to get pregnant) Jane because of DH's favorite aunt (and the only one in his family I would agree to name a child after!!) Thoughts?

Re: Joanna Jane?

  • I usually prefer that the first and middle names do not start with the same letter, but this is even worse. They share three out of four letters! IMO they are waaay too similar to each other.

In fact, these two names are actually derived from the same name: Ioannes. Here is the family tree chart so you can see their exact relation:

  • I don't think it's the best combination, but I can give a pass for sentimental reasons (as long as you don't plan on calling her Joanna Jane all the time). No one uses their full name very often anyway.

  • I don't think it's bad. One starts with Jo and one starts with Jay, so it's not the same sound.

Yes  I love the meaning of Joanna and I think Jane is great (especially since it's a family name).
  • I like the reasons behind choosing each name, but I don't really like either name and esp not together.

FYI - DD is named Jane and named for my mother (and MIL). My mom was named Jane b/c it means "A gift from God" ... my grandmother was told she would never have babies and was 34 when she got pg with my mom. So you might be able to accomplish all of that with one name.

IMO, I *really* don't like the two J's together, especially sounding so similar.

  • I think they sound too similar, but you have nice reasons for picking each one.

I really like Joanna as a first name and I like Jane as a middle name. I don't like the combo, though. They are too similar.
