Super fast movement - update from midwife

I tried to look this up and it seems that people had different experiences.  5 times in the past week I've been feeling new and different movement in addition to the normal stuff.  She kicks me super fast, like the speed of a punching a speed bag for a few seconds.  The first time it was 2 times in a row with about a minute in between and last night it was 3 times in a row.  I'm just really surprised that they can move this quickly. It does not feel like hiccups because it is rapid fire for a few seconds then stops.  I did feel like she was in a little bit of a different position after each occasion - is it just that?  How does she move so fast?!

  • Yep, I've felt this too. I hadn't really thought about the "how" of it, but it makes me giggle when he does it. :)

  • LOL! I am having the same thing. My hubby and I refer to it as "laughing." He'll call to check in and ask "has she laughed today?" ;)

  • I've experienced the same thing many times.  I think it's normal but was going to talk to my MW about it next week.
  • I'm glad other mammas have been feeling this too! I was worried it was seizure like activity. It is so much faster then any other movement.

  • I've had that a couple times also.  It felt like a woodpecker tapping inside me.  My OB says it's completely normal, although even she doesn't know how they manage to move that fast sometimes.  She said it's not hiccups though--hiccups will make my whole stomach "jump."

That is what I was worried about too, I think it has been the first thing I'm actually a little bit anxious about. But, I am sensitive to that because right now because I'm working with a little girl with seizures and her mom says that looking back she felt them in utero.

Good to hear they are normal! I was going to ask my midwife next appointment.

  • I've been experiencing this fast movement too.  I remember having some of this with my 1st pregnancy, but not nearly as much.  Glad to hear that someone's OB said it was fine.
  • An update from what the midwife said.  She said that the still developing nervous system is why the super fast movements happen. Just in case anyone likes reasons like me.
