DH and I are NO where near conceiving another LO any time soon but we have always loved the name Maggie. And we argue back and forth on whether or not it is a stand alone name. Do you think Maggie is a just nickname or does it stand alone? We don't like Margaret at all. Curious what you ladies think.

Re: Maggie
I know the most lovely young lady named Maggie. I love it. I would make it a nn for Margaret. Maggie is too nicknamey and doesn't grow well IMO.
ETA: Maggie can be a nn for Magnolia and Margo/Margot as well. Also there's Margery and Magdalene/Magdalena.

I agree w/ pp ? I think this is a name that needs a formal name. And there are so many choices! I even know a Maude who goes by Maggie.

I really disike it as a name, I'm sorry! I even have a niece with this name and I still can't stand it. All I can think of when I hear it is a black lab.
It is a real name that thousands of people have carried on their birth certificate for decades. And it's cute and all, but I personally think it's way too cutesy for an adult.
I don't want a cutesy name like that to be my daughter's only name possibility for the rest of her life. So I would put Margaret on the birth certificate. Then she would have the option of Maggie, but she would also have the option of Margo, Meg, Peggy, Mae, Maisy, Daisy, Greta, etc. There's nothing wrong with having more options later in life.
So to me, this is not a question of whether it can stan alone or not. It's a question of, "Is it too cutesy for an adult?" And my personal answer to that is "yes".
