Is Hermione out because Harry Potter is so big right now? DH and I just love the sound of it, but don't want to be cheesy. For what it's worth, I haven't even seen any of the HP movies!
I personally had never heard the name until HP, so I feel like the association would be pretty high. On the other hand, I don't know if the books/movies actually made the name that much more popular... so it still could be unique.
Harry Potter will most likely be a classic for years to come and since this name is pretty exclusive to the book (meaning not very main-stream), I would not use it.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I agree, unlike Twilight (gag), I believe it's safe to say that Harry Potter will be considered classic someday. It's been around for roughly 12 years and is popular as ever. I think the name Hermione is and will continue to be exclusively connected to the series.
Maybe consider Briony? I knew a girl in middle school that pronounced it Bree-nee, but believe it's also often pronounced Bry-nee or Bry-uh-nee. Seems a little similar and won't have those connotations that Hermione does.
I'm the same as pp, I'd never heard this name before the Harry Potter books, so I would automatically associate it with them. I also think that the books will remain popular for many years so younger kids will make the same association.

I agree with this and I love the suggestion of Briony pronounced Bry-uh-nee.
I also really like the name Hermione, but couldn't use it for a child because of the HP connection so I named my car Hermione!
I like it but would never name my child that. I would be afraid of the teasing...Hermie....Hermes....it's a Greek mythology name etc....
Plenty of names come from Greek mythology...doesn't stop people from using them. Besides which, in this case it's a long-standing name that has appeared in Shakespeare(Queen Hermione from The Winter's Tale), Homer(Helen and Menelaus' daughter, in The Illiad), and has been the name of several actresses, among others.
Besides, honestly, most kids(and adults, for that matter) are sadly ignorant of mythology outside of the texts of their own religion(s). I doubt many would go "that's a mythology name!" and use that as a taunt.

i'm sure most people never heard it before harry potter so if the association won't bother you...
i personally hate the name aside from the movies.

Theres no way you could use it without everyone thinking of hp
