Hey, All,
Some of you might remember that the book I'm currently working on is called The Children's War and what I do is look at drawings done by children during war-time from the 1930s to present day and write a poem about each one. Some more just came out yesterday. Here's a link:

My premise is based on the E.M. Forster quote: "I am sure that if the mothers of various nations could meet, there would be no more wars." So, to me, at least, this project IS board-related because I feel like this quote is true, and having a baby makes me believe even more in this project.
I'm also the featured writer here since today is the start of National Poetry Month:
Here are some previously published ones if you liked those:

And me in concert with the Portland Cello Project, who composed music based on some other Children's War poems:

Now that I'm officially on bed-rest, I wanted to share with someone! I hope that's okay.
Take care, April Mamas! And Happy National Poetry Month!
Re: NBR (more Children's War poems / self-serving warning :-)
Awwww... Thanks so much! You should give it another go. After all, it is National Poetry Month. Daily prompts await at:

I think people make poetry too hard. It's just distilled language. If fiction is beer, poetry is whiskey :-)

There is an awesome folk song about war that these all remind me of.
"If every leader in this world had their mind set on freedom
If every leader in this world dreamed the sweet dream of peace
If every leader in every nation, young and old each generation
all joined hands in the name of love there would be no more war."
Then you change leader to different words such as Man, Woman, Preacher, Teacher but never children since it is not their responsibility.
A choir I belonged to a few years ago sang this in the band shell at Central Park on International Peace Day. I also led it for a 9/11 vigil shortly after 9/11 with about 200 kids and adults singing. Really powerful experience that even gives me goosebumps to think about now.
You are giving these kids a voice. So amazing.
That's so cool about your Peace Rally/folksinging experience, campbaby76 :-) I'll have to look up that song! And thanks for your kind words!

Thanks so much! I'm feeling pretty good. I mostly just spent time on my laptop today--Fb chatting with my little brother, reading on here, etc. Jared came home with lunch after he was done with school, and he's now cleaning the car out and then putting in the baby seat. I'm going to nap and then write out the list for the hospital bag. :-) We're just figuring that if the baby does come on Monday, we have the essentials...he's rooming with us anyway, so it's okay that we don't have a put together nursery, etc. There's no sense running around like crazy now. Well, I can't run around like crazy, and Jared is Mr. Zen, so he wouldn't do that anyway.
