So after an ultrasound which confirmed PCOS, the doc called back and said that he recommends that I have a Hysteroscopy with a procedure called ovarian drilling. He wants to meet and go over the options. I just got thrown by this, wasn't thinking about surgery.
Has anyone ever had this done? Pros/Cons?
I was reading a bit into this and it said that it is a pretty rare procedure.
Sorry forgot to add, this was an OB/GYN.
Re: So Dr. Recommends surgery?!
I'd probably get a second opinion. You didn't say if it was an OB or a RE or a GP that suggested it, but I'd check with another dr before doing some surgical option. There are plenty of pcos patients that ttc and get bfp's w/o either of those procedures (myself included).
He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
I've never had this done but from what I understand:
For a hysteroscopy, they will dialate your cervix and put a tube with a camera on the end of it into your uterus to see the shape of the inside and make sure everything is a-okay. While you're out, they'll "drill" your ovaries, which essentially is just them removing the calicified eggs (this is one of the many lovely things that happens for women who have PCOS) that have accumulated over your lifetime. Doing this gives your eggs more room to mature and release which, in turn, could result in an easier time getting pregnant.
IMO, if you trust your doctor and he suggested ovarian drilling I'd do it. No questions asked. Knowing what I know now, anything to make it easier to get pregnant is a definite do in my book.
Well, yeah, that too.
There are also a few questions I'd need answered to make my previous reply 100% true. How long have you been TTC? And what kind of doctor was it that diagnosed you with PCOS and wants to do the hysteroscopy/ovarian drilling (GP, Ob/Gyn, RE)?
