Gift for a 5-year-old

My niece turns 5 next week and I want to get her an "experience" for her birthday vs. stuff.

They live in a smaller city (population 20,000) and aren't keen on driving into the big city, so I'm trying to think of fun gift ideas for her. So far, all I've come up with is movie tickets (I'm honestly not sure she has ever been to the movies, so that could be fun). Or maybe a Target gift card and the experience could be going and shopping for her own gift? Or a gift certificate to a restaurant? Any other ideas? There aren't any children's museums or zoos in the area.

  • Is there a bounce place that does monthly passes? Or maybe a ceramic painting place. Cooking classes, swimming lessons, horseback riding...

  • Build a bear gift certificates are fun.  Maybe check into their community ed program to see if they have any fun day classes.  Or craft stores often offer fun classes so you could do a gift certificate to something like that.
