Hey everyone! Hope you are all feeling great! I called my OBGYN today and scheduled my first appointment for April 26-- about 8 weeks. I expected to not have my first appointment until then, but I keep seeing people posting about blood tests to confirm. She didn't say I needed a blood test. Will they do it then? Should I call my primary care doctor to schedule that? I already had a prescription for prenatal vitamins from my OBGYN since we were actively trying.
Just trying to see if the blood test is necessary. Thanks!
Re: first appt schedule but no blood test???
When I called my doctor to make an appointment, they said I could come in if I wanted too, but it wasn't necessary. I know I would obsess over the beta levels if I got it, so I skipped it.
Usually they will do a blood test if its too early for the urine to show it, if they expect problems or if the mom to be really wants it. So its normal not to get it.
Most women who are getting early blood tests are those who have been seeing an infertility specialist (RE), like myself. The first time around, I didn't have any problems conceiving and was told I didn't need to do blood work.
If all your doctor/insurance requires is a urine test for confirmation, then that's all you have to do!

I called to set up my appointment today too and they told me straight up that a blood test wasn't necessary. The nurse said the at home tests are so great these days that there is not need for a blood confirmation. "It's just expensive and a needless poke" is exactly how she put it A positive, is a positive is also what she reminded me. I was shocked too, I thought for sure I'd be down there tomorrow getting blood taken.
My first Appointment is April 19th, I think I got scheduled super early because I ovulated way late. I told them the date I ovulated, but regardless they go by the last period date. I'm not complaining though, the sooner the better if you ask me!
That is the same day as my first appt!
