Katarina- WDYT?

Just thinking this name sounds pretty but stil debating on whether I should add it to my list. Don't like the NN Kat, and I'm pretty sure it would be a given....WDYT. Just curious!

  • No I really dislike this name.

I agree. And using Katrina has a less likely chance of being shortened to Kat.

  • I like it.  I think it's pretty and actually prefer it over Katrina.  But I think you're right about the nn Kat -- it might be unavoidable.

I like it, but prefer Katrina or Karina.
  • I love it. But, I agree, it does depend on your last name to pull it off. Our last name works perfectly with Katarina. It's one syllable and starts with a "K" sound. Maybe that's why I love it so much. I know a Katrina and a Katarina, and they both just go by their full names, no nn. Also, if you always call her Kate, or something besides Kat, chances are your family/friends will adopt that nickname. And if she introduces herself as Kate (or Katarina, call me Kate) at school, most people aren't going to call her Kat. I try not to worry about nn too much, as lots of the time children get a nn that has nothing to do with their name. Ex. My sister's nn is Mouse. Or my SIL's is Gill. Sometimes you just can't control a nn. If you love the name, go for it!
  • I like it, but I may like Katrina a bit more. I like the "trina" sound better than just the "reena" sound. Does that make any sense? :)
  • I like it. My niece's name is Katerina. We call her Katerina.

  • Thanks for all of your input! I appreciate it :) Our last name is pretty simple - 2 syllables, very common so I know Katarina would work well. Thanks again!

  • I like it. I had a student with that name. Her NN could always be Rina, which is cute.

  • I like it but I prefer it spelled Katerina.  I don't like Katrina.
  • My grandmother is Catharina - pronounced the same but spelt differently.  She is an immigrant from Holland so I think that's why it's spelled slightly less traditionally.  If you did go with that spelling, the nn could be Cathy?  I'm not a huge fan of that as a nn but maybe some others are.  I also think Rina or Reeney as a nn would work.  Or if you have a good last name you never know, people may use that as a nn.  More people called me by my last name than my first growing up!

  • Yes I like Katarina a thousand times more than Katrina. See the link below for more nn options. Some are better than others, but your options are certainly not limited to Kat.

  • It's too fancy for my taste.  I think it sounds very pretty, but I am too simple for a name like it.
