water breaking question- POP??

A lot of girls on here said that when their water broke, it followed a "pop" that they either heard or felt. Is that always the case? Or can it just start to trickle/flow? I know a lot of us won't have our water spontaneously rupture, but I'm just curious what it *might* be like. I'm almost at the 2 week mark... Remember the 2 week wait when TTGP. I thought those were the longest 2 weeks ever. Boy was I wrong!!

    Amen, sister.

I don't know the answer to your question, though. Stick out tongue

  • With DS I heard a pop.  It was like the sound when you sit on a water balloon and it felt like that too.  Now other people in the room said they did not hear it, but we were all laughing and joking around right before it happened.  I know I heard a pop.

  • In my child birth prep class the instructor said it's not always a pop and that it depends on where it breaks.  She said if it breaks down low, then it usually is a pop and a gush but it can also break up high in your uterus and then it's usually a slow leak.
  • When I had my daughter it felt like a water balloon breaking, and a big gush. I was actually sitting on the toilet and had just finished going pee when I had a bad cramp and "Pop" and gush... I immediatly called my Dr office :)

I'm worried this time it'll happen differently, I've heard of other women having a "slow leak" I think you just have to pay attention to your body and note any differences, no matter how slight :)

  • My water broke with my first. I didn't hear a pop or anything at all. I just remember sitting down and when I stood up I could feel it come out and my pants were completely soaked. It can defiantly just trickle a little and I think it can vary a lot depending the position you are in, whether it be laying down, sitting, or standing. I'm right there with you and these last 2 weeks are taking forever!

When mine broke with #2 it didn't pop.  It was the middle of the night and I was just standing by the back door waiting for my dogs to pee when I felt warm fluid running down my leg.  At first I thought I had just peed myself because it just starting running and there was no pop or gush.  But, after I lay down for about 30 minutes and then stood up more of it came out so I knew it was AF and not just pee.

  • I think like a PP said, if it breaks low in the uterus, you hear the pop and it's a big gush. But if it breaks high, it will be more like a trickle/leak and probably no pop.

I heard the pop before mine broke. and then there was a TON of fluid, there was no mistaking it.

  • Well, with DS, I felt him punch very low down (it seemed stronger than usual) and immediately had a huge gush of water. I think that sometimes you just stand up or notice a gush of fluid without feeling or hearing a pop.
  • I heard/felt the pop and had the MASSIVE gush (the movie one they warn you no one ever experiences!).

  • I did not hear a pop and my broke on it's own... It just started to trickle at first but within 20 minutes I had changed my underwear 4 times and soaked through 2 pads

  • no pop for me with my son, went to the bathroom at about midnight and peed and then there was more liquid. I sat there for a bit, had a contraction and more liquid came out. I woke up DH and told him my water had broken. Now, with my daughter, it NEVER broke. She was born in the bag still! It opened right as she was coming out. She was a water birth, though, so I'm not sure if there was a pop or gush when she was born. Unusual.

  • I didn't hear or feel a pop. I lost my plug a few hours before it ruptured and even then it was more of a trickle, at least at first. It felt more like I had peed myself. Slowly I had more and more "peed myself" incidents.

  • I felt a pop.  It was morning & I got back into bed to rest.  I sat in the bed, sneezed, felt a pop, and then the water started coming.  The way it flowed, there was no mistaking it was pee, lol.
