Anyone else overwhelmed?

As I am reading through all of these posts, I feel completely behind and so overwhelmed...  is there anyone else out that feels that way?

Granted, I could so be overreacting, hormones and all.  But we haven't even looked at cribs, or bedding, or anything at all yet.  We won't know gender until later this week, so we just have been holding off on looking.  We know what room will be the nursery, but haven't even touched it in regards to cleaning it out.

I feel like our grace period is over, but I am so overwhlemed I don't know where to start...

  • Dont stress! You have plenty of time still!

But at the same time I understand. We need to clean out the baby's room and move the computer desk into the guest bedroom and H has a ton of CRAP in there he needs to get out. It's making me nuts because its not something that I can do... it's all his stuff so I dont know what is what. But if he doesn't get it going soon I am going to take matters into my own hand - which means shoving everything into garbage bags and then into the crawl spaces upstairs =)

  • We finished our first child's nursery about 6 weeks before he was born. I am 18 weeks pregnant(due 8-27) and haven't done a thing for this one yet. It is definitely true that after the first pregnancy, you are a lot more laid back the 2nd time. Yes, it does seem to go by fast, especially looking back while you are in L&D. But it is still 9 months. Unless you are one to go early, you have plenty of time.

  • Yes!  I've been feeling overwhelmed, but I keep telling myself that I still have 4 1/2 months.  We can get it done!
  • I haven't done anything yet either. We have plenty of time! I think people just get excited and they like to work on things. Don't worry!

Don't stress.  Find a friend or relative who has kids and ask for their advice.  I would have been lost without my sister when I was registering.  I've been using the checklist on this website as a guide for the most part.

Also, in my religion there's a lot of superstition so I won't even have the babys room ready before the baby is born.

  • Yup, we have plenty of time. But I get overwhelmed, too.

I started last week by making a list of all of the important things that need to be done before the baby gets here. We'll start sometime in April by moving the guest bed furniture into the attic. Then we will order the crib. We'll also register in April since MIL needs to send shower invitations out at the end of April. Then we probably won't do much until after my two showers in June.

  • I am starting to stress a little myself.  I just got my baby bargains book last week though and I am starting to make some decisions in my head about what to put on the registry.  I have to clean out the nursery room this weekend as we have contractors coming to start drywall work on it next week so I know it will get done in due time. But it all does make me a little anxious too so you are not alone.

  • Don't stress out about it, your nesting instinct will kick in and everything will get done!   I feel a little behind too, in regards to everyone else, but I don't really care.  I only starting look at cribs and furniture because I had no idea it took so long to order.  It took me 5 weeks to find something we liked and was rated high.  We still need to measure to make sure it will fit though and figure out when to order it.

As for everything else we need - I have given myself mini deadlines to do things so I don't get off track or do a big freakout.

I haven't touched our office (soon to be nursery) either and it is somewhat of a disaster.  I feel like I need to get it done asap but realistically, I will survive if I don't finish it until the end of April.  I am still dealing with a lot of m/s, so feeling better and getting rest I need is more important right now.

Wooooooooo-sahhhhhhhh  , it will all work out!

  • Also, Iam sure you have had people offer to help with anything they can.  Take them up on their offer if you really are overwhelmed and put them to work!

As for buying supplies, registering and all that - the baby bargains book and Lucie's List has really helped me a lot.  I was having panic attacks over all the choices and everything we needed.  I can't tell you how much better I feel with these two resources.  Here is the link for Lucie's List: https://www.lucieslist.com/

  • Honestly, the baby NEEDS very little in the first few months.  I have bought several things on Craigslist, but honestly, we are being pretty laid back about the whole thing.  We aren't decorating the nursery (we are team green).  It is already painted a blue-green color.  The only thing we are going to do is hang curtains (I have already purchased the curtains but not the rod).

Relax.  It will all come together.

  • I was feeling exactly like this a couple weeks ago, and what helped me is to just sit down and make a list.  Everything I need to do, and everything I need to buy.  I still haven't done a single thing ON that list, but just having it spelled out what needs to get done took 99% of the stress right out of it.  Now I'm confident we have tons of time and I'm just having fun with it.

This exactly.  We plan on getting the ball rolling after Thursday's a/s.  Easier said than done, but try not to stress!

  • It's easy to get carried away but seriously, you don't even need a crib when the baby comes home - and you have plenty of time after baby comes to decorate and shop.  We didn't order our crib until I was 34 weeks and it was put together by 37 weeks and my son wasn't born until 41.5 weeks.  I have no idea why anyone cares so much about bedding.  I registered for a set at BRU and got it for my shower and that was that.
  • don't worry! We haven't bought a single thing! All I've done is casually looked at prices of things so that I have an idea how much we'll need to spend. Our baby room is the office I am now working in - so there is a lot of furniture moving for us (DH) in the future, and I'm not worried. Something like that can be accomplished in one weekend.
  • see, i feel the opposite: i feel like some people are way ahead of where they should/would/could be. i would not stress at all. i am going into my 22nd week and have literally not bought one single thing! and i am not stressed about it in the least.

  • I'm totally overwhelmed.  We started a major kitchen remodel the day after we found out I was pregnant (previously planned remodel).  Major, like down to the studs.  Doing ALL the work ourselves with my dad's occasional help.  STILL not finished with that, can't work on fixing up the soon-to-be office (which is the tool storage/also ripped up room) until kitchen is done, and can't work on baby's room until office is done.  Why do I see myself throwing together a nursery while my contractions are starting?  Lol.  It'll all work out.
  • Thanks ladies!  We have the midway ultra sound tomorrow, after determing baby's gender, I am hoping to become motivated!!
