Babies: 9 - 12 Months

who is having a small 1st bday for lo?

ours will be very low key. i think we are doing a cookout and there will only be immediate family and a few friends, 20 people max. i feel like everyone is throwing a big extravaganza (emily, i'm talking to you! :P ) and even my friends coming to dd's party are like, that's it? i am happy with the small party but i was just curious if anyone else is keeping things low key too.

eta: yikes, my first bday related post. i am marking this day on my calendar.

  • Ours will be small.

  • I am keeping it low key.  Family, a few friends, a light lunch, cake, and presents.

Call me old school, but that is what I think birthday parties are about.

  • I want to throw a small party, but I don't know how possible that will be because DH & I have such large families & if we don't invite close friends they might go ape sh*t on us.. I don't know. Sad

We're just celebrating with coffee and cake.
  • Ours will be 10 people including family, and our closest friends. We have a budget of no more than $150 for food, decorations, and presents.

  • We just had DD's this past weekend. We had three sets of grandparents and her uncle. I am glad we kept it small. She was able to interact with everyone and we all had a great time.

  • Ours is also small, 12 people if great-grandma is well enough to come. AND, we're terrible parents, we bought LO a truck and some bath toys on clearance and I ordered him a book using free points I had earned.  Grandmas and Grandpas are doing big time spoiling so we thought we'd hold back!
  • Yep, my theme is bbq and beer with a hint of cake thrown in.

this. I do want to do a theme but I'm not carrying it too far. Girly dinos. If I ever get around to making them, the invites will be dinos. And the cake will be a dino. I would probably do more if we weren't poor, so I don't judge those who go all out.

  • We're keeping it small, just family and a couple close friends.  Doubtful that any of DD's aunts and uncles will make it, they're all too far away.  A few drinks, cake and some presents - that's all that's needed.  Nothing big, nothing fancy.  It's a birthday party, not a wedding.

  • I am throwing a couple of very small birthday parties because our families live so far away and because they are all visiting at different times.  If/When we live near family again, I think it would be fun to plan a big party with everyone, but it still won't be as huge as some parties.  I love seeing all the little cousins playing together.  :)
  • Small is relative with DH's family.  Small to us means 3 Grandparents, 4 Aunts/uncles, 3 God-Parents and 2 cousins - besides our family of 5.  We are however sharing dessert with our neighbors for the evening.
  • Ours will be small. Our original plan was to have it at the local firehouse and invite everyone...including our aunts/uncles/cousins etc. However, we did the math and that would have been 60-something people. We are close to all of our LARGE family but felt that was too overwhelming for us and DS. I can only imagine what he would do if he had 60 pairs of eyeballs watcing him eat cake, open gifts, etc. Not to mention, we dont need all those gifts! And no one would be able to have any quality time with him. So, we changed plans and are having a smaller gathering at my parents house with IMMEDIATE family only (our parents, siblings, and grandparents) which will be around 20-25 people. BBQ, low key, less stress. :)

  • Our party will be small too.  Our families live on the east coast.  It will be just close friends.  I imagine 10'ish people.  We are having a second birthday party for LO at my parents house with just family a month after her bday when we are visiting them.  Low key, low key, low key...

  • We will be doing low key as well.   Close family and friends.  20 people tops.  Cute decoratios, cake, hopefully bbq (depending on the flippin weather here in NJ - hit or miss) and of course booze.....need it to deal with the family - LOL!!
