Postpartum TMI question

So with my previous two c-sections I had a lot of bleeding for a few weeks post partum.  this time I've had hardly any at all!  Like even in the hospital I had hardly any.  I'm already in just a regular pad versus the giant hospital pads, and I know I wore those giant hospital pads for at least two weeks post partum with the other c-sections.  I asked about it a few times in the hospital and they said that I was contracting and everything looked good and that they must have "cleaned me out well" after the surgery.  So just wondering if anyone else had hardly any bleeding post partum?  I know I should be happy, but I can't help but think its weird or like something is wrong.  paranoid!

Re: Postpartum TMI question

  • I was on a regular pad by day three or four both times but I did bleed for two weeks or so.

  • In general mine was a lot lighter this time too. However, I did have couple big scares a few days after I got home w some big clots. Like no bleeding all day long and then a huge gush. I had to call the on call doc once but she said not to worry unless it happened again w/ in the hour. All we could figure was that i had overdone it (who me?) Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it- just count your blessings.

  • They probably just cleaned out your uterus very well. Light bleeding after a section is not uncommon at all. I actually know how you feel. I had heavy bleeding after my first but that was due to me retaining a portion of the placenta and needing an emergency D&C 4 wks PP. After Ryan was born I had very light bleeding so much so it freaked me out a little.

  • I didn't have a c-section but my pp bleeding after Noah was much, much lighter than it was with Benjamin.  I was in a regular pad within a few days and the only time I had heavy bleeding was when I overdid it.  It also didn't last nearly as long as it did with Benjamin.  I don't know if it was because I actually listened to my body the second time around and crawled back into bed when I had heavy bleeding or not but yeah, I was "pleasantly" surprised at the lack of heavy bleeding.
  • nate hardly (didn't even have to wear the big pads) any but Wes OMG...flood of a river!  I wonder if yours has anything with your tubes where they had to suck out more blood?  Could have something to do with it.
  • I never bled a lot with either of my c-sections. With Bailey, I spotted a little in the hospital and then after the first week I bled some but not a lot. I used regualar pads the whole time. With Bryce I bled a little more but still not enough to fill a hopsital pad and I started using regular ones once I got home from the hopsital. With both I did have light bleeding for about 4 weeks (maybe 6 weeks with Bailey).

  • I had hardly any at all after Tess. I thought it was weird too but my ob assured me that it was fine.
  • Mine had been pretty light (two c-sections), but the other night I had a huge gush once I started BFing, so don't hold your breath that it will stay that light (but I hope for your sake it does!).

same here. It was super heavy with the twins I was for sure something was wrong....and then with MC...not that much...but some days heavy and huge clots. Fun times!

  • After my first c-section, I bled a ton after the c-section and bled for a long time (10 weeks).

With my second c-section, I barely bled.  I was very concerned because of what I had after my first and the nurses and doctors reassured me that I was fine.  So, I leave the hospital (a day earlier than I should have) feeling great.  I get home and I guess with a mixture of pain pills, lack of sleep, and the high of being a new mom, again, I guess I thought I was superwoman and instead of taking it easy and letting my body rest, I was doing stupid sh*t like going shoping on Black Friday (just one week pp) and moving baby furniture around, climbing up and down stairs, etc.  Yeah, I paid the price dearly.  I started bleeding terribly.  It was so bad that I thought I was hemorraging.  I was put on strict bed rest for several days.  I ended up bleeding pretty bad for about 12 weeks pp.  Then I had wacky, extremely heavy periods for about 1 1/2 years pp.  Finally, my body started getting back to normal.  My ob scolded me big time for overdoing it and said that I should have been taking it easy.  Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that even if you aren't bleeding much now, please take it easy and rest as much as possible (I know that's crazy with three boys), but give your body time to fully recover.

  • I had heavy bleeding for about a month after my c-section, and the bleeding didn't completely stop until about 8 weeks pp. It's a releif to hear you ladies say it wasn't as bad the next time.

I agree!  I was pretty sick the last few weeks I was pg w/ Tess (pre-E) and felt like a million bucks 2.5 seconds after she was born.  I had hardly no bleeding, no pain at all (I didn't have a c-section) so I over did it and ended up in the ER w/ a spinal headache and super elevated BP.  So take it easy!
