i did every 3 hours when he was a freshie, he had lost 10% body weight and had jaundace badly. once he was back up to weight i never woke him. but he was pretty regular 3hr feeder, still is. no sttn at the cookie house.
When he was newborn, if he had gone more than 4 hours without eating I might have done it, but we never got that lucky. Plus, DS was gaining weight great, so we let him set the pace.
Nope I only woke DD up once in the night because it had been close to 6 hours and I was engorged. Other than that I have always feed on demand. She is gaining weigh just fine and her pedi said feeding her on demand is perfectly fine.
Congrats! I only feed on demand, when she was hungry she ate. For a week it was every 2 hrs or maybe 2 weeks and then went to every 3. It was pretty consistent even though i was feeding on demand. I never woke her either at night, just let her sleep. SHe will wake when she is hungry, I took all the sleep I could get.
Our little guy had jaundice pretty bad, so we did wake every three hours until he regained his birth weight, and then we just didn't go past four during the day for the first two weeks, after that... whenever he was hungry.
We woke her every 2 hours in the hospital and then the first 3 days at home. We had our appt. yesterday and the pedi said NOT to wake her but that was instructions for us because she was back to her birth weight. Had she not been to her birth weight they would have had keep waking her until she was. ?
With DD #1 I did (2 hrs), only because she had lost a lot of weight in the hospital. Once we were back on track, I never woke her anymore.
With DD #2 I did (every 1.5 hours per pedi recommendation) due to pretty bad jaundice (we were this close to having to get her readmitted for phototherapy). The jaundice made her so sleepy, she would have slept 8 hours without waking to eat, if I let her. We also had a seperate health scare related to her bilirubin labs. It's kind of a long story but it turned out fine. Once that had resolved, I stopped waking her.

Hell no! Are you insane?
