Check the Finding your Tribe boards on Mothering.com and see who people recommend in your area. I've had good luck finding info about resources on there.
You're going to find it quite hard in NC- because the CNM (legally to practice) has to be "under supervision" of an OB and most OB's won't support homebirths in NC. This has been in the news recently here in NC.

I found a midwife in Garner, she's currently working on her certification, so she works under the supervision of a midwife in Fayetteville. But, she listed on her site that she is willing to travel (from Garner) so it might be worth a shot!
