Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What toys are a hit?

DS is just about 9 months and I think he's bored to death with the toys we have.  I've been avoiding buying toys since we don't have much space, but we're moving soon and DS gets to have a play room!  What are the hot toys among the older babies right now?

  • Elise has that talking book too. She likes it, but I find it highly annoying. Sort of a catch-22. I should add that I find most talking toys annoying, though, so I'm probably a bit biased.

  • Thank you for this post. We are in the same situation. I was thinking of getting one of those toys with the balls that kiddos put in and the air blows the balls up out. But, I don't know if she'll get it or just chew the balls.

  • We have the leapfrog table, he loves that. We had the Lil Zoomers thing too, but he kept standing on it so it broke.
  • DS loves the books that read as you turn the pages (similar to the first post).  He also likes his leap frog table and a set of stacking rings.  He enjoys a set of stacking cups too.  Recently he has also been into rolling around balls so we got a few small soft ones for him.  DS is only 9 months though.

baby instruments - a small piano, bells, cymbals, etc.

I have a small space too, so I don't like a lot of giant plastic toys taking up space.  DD will sit for 20-30 minutes just looking at her books, which were inexpensive, don't take up a lot of space, and don't make noise!

  • Great siggy!!!!!

Mason is loving musical instruments lately (especially drumsticks).  He is also getting pretty good at his shape sorter (we have the Fisher Price Cookie Jar one).  He loves anything with cars as well- the little boy at his sitters plays with cars so of course Mason wants to as well :)

  • DS is bored with his toys too so I have no suggestions. But I just wanted to say I love the new siggy of your DS! Cute!

  • DS is the same age but my friends with older babies recommended a few things: shape sorters, trucks, stacking blocks, push/pull toys, sand/water table.  DS is starting to put things in/take things out.  They sell toys like that but we're using a cardboard box and he goes for it every time.  That or a tennis ball.  He also likes his  bead maze thing.

I prefer smaller toys to big things so DS has mostly small things.  But we hope to get him a zany b cube and/or push walker thing (a cart/wagon) in the next few months.

  • DS's favorites are the zany zoo activity cube, his m&d shape sorter, and a small, red playground type ball.
