I went to HS with a Signe but she pronounce SIG-neh. Her parents were Scandinavian so I always thought that was the "correct" pronunciation. Does anyone know different?
She'll have trouble spelling it out for people and people will assume it's Sidney. I grew up with an unusual first name "Hollan" my mother's maiden name, but got so exhausted correcting people and spelling it out and being called "Holly" by accident that I eventually switched my middle and first names. Everyone seems to get Kaia right - that was my switch. Just know in taking on an odd first name, it's tough on a kid, but often enjoyable for an adult.
Signe is not pronounced exactly the same as Signy/Signey, but I've seen that variation. It's Scandinavian and my niece was almost named that. My son's middle name is Magne and it's pronounced closer to Magna than Magny.
