Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Won't lie still.

My DS is nine months old and for a few months now we are having the hardest time getting him to be still while changing clothes and diapers.  I thought maybe it was just a faze but it's been at least two moths of this. He will scream and cry and do everything in his power to get away.  Is this a common thing in all babies or how do we help teach him to be still?  I am at my wits end. I dread every diaper change throughout the day.

  • DD does this too. I usually give her something to play with that is not a toy, like the remote or something. It keeps her occupied longer than a toy. HTH!

  • DS tries to stand up on the changing table!!!! ARgh.... I may try some wall stickers myself.

  • If we sing a silly song like the itsy bitsy spider, or another silly song, she usually will sit still. I have to be fast though!

  • I give DS anything he likes to play with but is not allowed....my telephone or one of DS #1's toys.  I always have something novel handy...DS really likes plastic water bottles.  It is very common and VERY frustrating....I have done some diapers with him standing up!  GL

  • DD is all over the place too.  It's driving me crazy.  Today, I was changing her diaper and it was such a mess...literally!  I try to give her something to play with, but it doesn't work.  She rolls over, tries to crawl or sit up.  I have no suggestions on what to do, but I completely understand your frustration.

  • Ours are the same way.  Sometimes a toy will distract them.. even a diaper.... but more often than not.  There's alot of crying and trying to break free.  Also waiting for this stage to end.. it won't be soon enough for me ;-)
