Speaking of Epidurals

I have to have a c-section, so I am going to have one. Since I'm going in a week early, I'm anticipating that I won't be in labor and won't have that pain going on. So my question is, how bad does the epidural hurt?

Re: Speaking of Epidurals

  • mine i had while in labor and compared to the contractions i didnt feel it but when i had my spinal tap done it hurt a little but nowhere near a broken bone
  • Loading the player...
  • they numbed me before they did the epi so I didnt feel it at all

  • Didn't feel it because I was already getting IV pain meds that just weren't strong enough to squash contraction pain.

  • I remember a small pinch from the initial numbing shot and after that I didn't feel a thing.

  • Mine with my first was a breeze.  I would never avoid getting one because I thought it was painful or anything.  The worst was actually having the tape that held the epi cath in your back removed when it was all over... kinda like an unwanted lower back wax.

  • If you can handle a shot in your arm, you can handle an epidural. The most pain you will feel is the basic numbing shot they give you. Then you don't feel the epidural at all. I had an epi last time, and have to have a c-section this time so will be getting another epi, and I am not worried about that part of it at all.

  • I don't remember pain really, just uncomfortable. They make you sit on the edge of the bed kind of curled forward. Not the best position to be in while you are having contractions. I remember kind of flinching, which of course they didn't like because I was supposed to stay still. I really didn't think it was terrible though, but it did take longer than I imagined it would.
