I used to let him turn whenever he wanted to, but now I use my finger to read along do he knows where I'm reading and then let him turn when we are ready. That way he learns to be patient and I can point out what the story is talking about.

Hmm, I'm thinking around 16 months or so? We've been doing it for about 3 or 4 months. He does really well with it now cause when he recognizes words he'll point to the objects on the page. I feel like it keeps him involved better!
If he wants to skip ahead, I don't fight him on it. With his favorite books that we've read 500 times he knows when I've gotten to the end of the page, though, so he'll usually wait for that.

This is a great idea! I let him turn the pages early for books that have a lot of words on the page, but I will definitely try this trick instead & see if it helps!
Read my blog!
Mom, why are you washing my feed in the sink?!
If it's a shapes or animals or whatever book (with a picture and one word on each page) then I let him turn to whatever page he likes and then I read it. He has his clear favorites in the animal book.
In his other books either he knows them really well and knows when to turn the page ("I Love You Through and Through" is one of those) or I try to hold the page down and finish reading so he can learn when to turn the page. It also depends on what kind of a mood he's in. Sometimes books are toys and not really books, then he can turn the page whenever he wants.

DS likes to turn the pages, so when I am done reading a page, I hold it up a little, and he turns it. Much easier with his board books!
