Clicky Poll - Thank You cards deadline. EEK!

So I had my first shower last Saturday.  It was thrown by my mom and sister and it was family, family friends and close friends of mine.  We were given INCREDIBLE gifts (new bouncer, pack n play, swing, nice diaper bag etc etc).  Because the people who came are so special to me and were so generous, I am hand making the thank you cards.  I LOVE paper crafting and I wanted them to be extra special, personal, etc.  I'm ALMOST done and I was hoping to have them in the mail today but it looks like they won't go out until Monday.  I'm kind of stressing that because of my decision to make them, I've taken too long to get them out.  Am I being paranoid?  I really don't regret making them because they've turned out really cute, but I'm just curious what everyone else feels like is a good and acceptable timeline for getting them out. TIA!

  • I also had a shower this past weekend. I managed to get all the thank you cards written in the past few days, but I ran out of stamps when I mailed them. :( Yay for you being so crafty and personal with them.

  • I wanted mine out within a week, but my husband's grandfather passed away 4 days after my shower so everyone in the family was a bit busy and preoccupied with arrangements, etc.  I mailed the last of my TY cards out the other day - that was the 10th day after my shower.  I felt like they were late, but I know people would understand b/c of the death.  (So I voted for 2 weeks.)

I also wanted to send along a little something extra to my 2 sisters who hosted, so I had to buy those gifts too.  Everything takes time, ugh.  I did ~5 a day until they were finished.

  • I usually do mine right away but I would think a month is fine..
  • I'm still working on mine and tomorrow will be 2 weeks. I'm about halfway done. I'm writing pretty long, personal notes on each one and I really haven't had the time to do more than 3-4 a day!

  • 1 month is the standard for thank you cards but if you get them out sooner you are really great!!  I'm sure people don't expect them within a week or two bc you are pregnant and have a lot more on your mind.

  • I would say 1 month.

However, if circumstances were present that delayed them going out, as a guest I would be ok with it. My best friend had her daughter the day after her shower at 32 weeks. I would have not thought differently if she never sent them, but I think I got them 2-3 months after...

  • The most important thing, IMO, is just to get them out and make them personal--which it sounds like your doing. Don't stress.  You're fine.

Ditto, the sooner the better, but if you're doing more personalized and a hand touch, it means much more and another week is fine.

I have to do them immediately after receiving the gift, or I'll forget and they never get sent.  I don't ever mean to be rude but sometimes life just happens, other stuff will come up and it will just fall by the wayside.  Also, if I have a bunch to do all at once, it's harder for me to get started.

  • I think it would be good to get them out in a month, but people realize you are pregnant and tired and have a gazillion things to do.  They will understand if the card comes after the baby is born.  Just make it personal (which it sounds like you're doing) and don't stress yourself.

    Yes

  • See this is why I love this board.  By the time they go out it will have been within 2 weeks and after seeing all your opinions I don't feel stressed about the timetable.  Cool

  • I would say 2 weeks is a good turnaround for gifts that are received AT the shower (maybe a little longer is ok if you have a huge shower or are hand-making the cards), but there is a shorter timeframe for gifts received by mail before or after the shower (because the giver won't know that you received it until you thank them).  My shower is coming up in a few weeks, but I've received a couple of gifts by mail.  It took me a few days to get to the store to get the thank-you notes that match the invitations my SIL sent out, and so my thank you's didn't get out until a full week after I'd received the gifts.  I felt bad about that, because I knew that they'd be wondering if I received them.  And in fact, the day that I sent the thank-you's out, one of the givers posted on my facebook wall asking if I'd received her gift, and it was awkward responding to that when I'd just sent a TY card...
