We are going to register this weekend and I'm so confused on double strollers. DH really wants a SBS. I just want something is compatible with Chicco KeyFit carseats and something that can last beyond just carseat/carrier stage. Am I asking for too much? Any thoughts?
Re: Strollers: Tandem vs. SBS
I would get double snap and go and then wait on getting another stroller. It depends what you will mostly be using your stroller for. Also, think about how often you will be using the stroller and how often DH will be using it. If you SAH, you will need a stroller everywhere you go. While DH may mostly take the babies out with you. My DH has only taken the girls out once by himself. He'll watch them out home, but he doesn't take them anywhere unless he's with you. If that's the case for you, then YOU should be the one making the decision not him.
I still use the snap and go, but I also use a jeep SBS umbrella stroller. It folds up real small and is easy to throw in the car. I have a tandem graco douglider that I use for walks around the neighborhood. I use both, but I get a lot more use out of the jeep SBS because it is smaller and fits in the car well. I was trying to help, but I probably just made you even more confused. Sorry about that. Considering getting strollers used at consignments sales, craigslist, etc. so that you may be able to get more than one option.
I would consider getting both, the DSNG is priceless for the first 4-6 months as you can just move the babies in their carseats. That being said, I see DSNG's for sale frequently on Craigslist for $40-60. As it is pretty much a metal frame, you should be fine buying used.
Once you're out of the itty-bitty baby stage, you will need to decide whether a SBS or tandem fits your family better. We went with a SBS Maclaren and adore it- its lightweight for a double stroller, fits through most doorways, and doesn't take up the entire trunk of my Accord. The handles on it are high enough that my 6'4 DH doesn't have to hunch when pushing it. We quickly realized that the tandem strollers out there would take up 90% of my trunk due to the way they fold. So that was a big factor for us.
