IUD troubles... not quite BR

So I went in yesterday to get an IUD placed since DH and I are 1 and done, but due to family history of breast/cervical/colon cancer/heart disease/etc, estrogen bc pills are high-risk for me. I try not to swear but SWEET MOTHER-F-ING CAROLINE, I haven't felt pain like that since those oh-so-lovely pelvic exams in Labor/Delivery. My OB/GYN tried the sounding but I nearly passed out/threw up I was in so much pain, and my OBGYN thinks my cervix may not be compatible so he didn't place the IUD. (Mad props to him. I probably would have throat-kicked him if he tried continuing anyway... my feet were in stirrups and his head was right there. All too easy)

So here's my question. Any ladies out there with issues with normal estrogen level bc pills, what low-dose estrogen pills would you suggest? I tried ortho-tri-lo before I got pregnant and it made my breasts swell... I've heard good things about Aviane, but other ideas would be helpful?

  • I had Implanon because of high bp before we decided to try to get pregnant and it worked pretty well for me.  It lasts 3 years and goes in your arm.  Didn't hurt going in and just a tiny bit coming out.

  • Have you tried nuvaring? I had trouble with many hormonal BC, but never that one.

  • Don't do nuvaring! I swear everyone I know who got it got pregnant while on it!

  • I don't have any suggestions for BC.  I just wanted to say that getting Mirena put in was the worst pain of my life. I have had 2 c-sections, so I haven't really experienced labor, but I imagine that is what horrible contractions feel like. I was doing breathing exercises to keep from jumping off the table.  Afterwards, I felt like I was going to pass out/puke. She did get it in, but it was awful.  I feel your pain (literally)

  • Seriously. I can't believe in all the talk about Mirena on 0-3 that nobody mentioned how bad that sh!t hurts. When I went in the nurse was like "Compared to a natural delivery this is nothing" and I went waitwhat? And then it hurt every bit as bad as natural labor. The only difference was that it was shorter.

As for low dose, I really liked Yaz!

My doc told me we could try it again on the start of my next period. He told me as soon as I get my period, to take 800mg of Motrin around the clock until I come in. That would have been helpful to know THE FIRST TIME but my DH and I are going to look into another option.

FWIW, my SIL had it done and she said she hardly felt a thing. I think she's still pissed at me for getting pregnant at the same time she was pregnant and finally got sufficient payback.
