Food/Favor Ideas for B'day

Our theme is baseball.  I am planning on making a banner myself.  Does anyone have any great food/favor ideas?

We are planning on grilling out - pretty much a big BBQ on a friday night at my parents house.

I can't believe he will be 10 months old tomorrow....

Re: Food/Favor Ideas for B'day

  • The only things I can really think of are peanuts, cracker jack, popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, etc.  You know, baseball food.  Not exactly baby friendly, though.

Do you want the food to match the theme or do you not care?  FWIW we are having burgers and grilled chicken, german potato salad, baked beans, cheese and crackers, fruit, brownies and cake.

  • I don't have any great ideas.  But its a perfect theme to have if you're doing a cookout!  I can picture white cupcakes with red stitching though!  Please tell me you're going to get him a first birthday baseball jersey and hat?????!!!

Oh that is a great idea except Hudson will not wear a hat.  We are planning on going out to a ball diamond for a photo shoot for his invitations which I am really excited about.  I wonder if someone could custom make a jersey....or we could spend a pretty penny on one when we go to opening day next Thursday.

Previous Poster - The food doesn't have to match the theme.  Where I come from, parties revolve around home cooked meals.  The better the meal, the better the party.  My parents want us to do hot dogs and hamburgers, but I want to do chicken breast and pork steaks.  I think alot depends on how many RSVP.

    This exactly!

As for favors, I'd see if you can buy the hard plastic indivdual popcorn holders (I have those for "movie night") or even the paper ones and fill it with baseball related items. Like the "Big Chew" bubble gum, a whistle, maybe some baseball cards or some cheapie merchandise of your local baseball team, a baseball, etc, etc.

Oh that is a great idea.  I loved Big Chew when I was a kid, (DH still buys it sometimes lol) I know I can get the popcorn holders at the local dollar store!  I'm really excited about the theme.  I think the coolest thing will be for me to finish a quilt I have been hand stitching since before Hudson was even concieved.  DH and I both wanted a boy someday, and I already had a quilt for a little girl but didn't for a boy.  It says "B is for Baseball".  I will have to PIP it sometime so everyone can see it.  I am about 1/3 of the way finished with hand stitching the quilted part of it now.  Got alot of work ahead of me.  I plan on giving this to him for his first birthday.

  • Have you looked on Oriental Trading?  They have baseball lollipops, cupcake wrappers and TONS of favor type things.  You could also try contacting any teams in your area (MLB, minor league, semi pro etc) to see if they have any leftover giveaways from last year that they would like to get rid of.
  • One more thing, my nephew's first birthday was baseball themed and this is what my SIL had:

Hot dogs wrapped in tin foil (just like you'd get at a game)

peanuts and popcorn in paper bags

cotton candy machine (BIG hit with the kids)

    Nachos with queso dip

White cupcakes with the red stitching (like PP suggested)

    It was all adorable!
