Refusing to drink out of a bottle

About a month ago DS started refusing to be spoon fed any purees so we're now on all finger foods with the exception of yogurt.  He is now refusing to drink his formula out of a bottle except the bottle before bed.  Has anyone else gone through this?  What did you do?  I took a straw sippy cup to daycare today so that they could put his formula in that if he was still refusing the bottle.  I'm not sure what else to do!  Thoughts/suggestions??  TIA!

  • We are going through the same thing!  Hopefully we get some suggestions...

Is LO teething...this migh be our issue with his bottle.  I tried putting his nipples in the fridge so that when I give him a bottle they are cold on his teeth.

Also, LO might be ready for finger foods?  I started them this week too...

Is he teething or have any cough/respiratory issues right now?  That can affect bottle feeding.

DS went through this when he was sick a few weeks ago.  We need to wean him to a sippy cup by 1 year (daycare prefers) and we decided to seize the opportunity and make the switch.  We try to follow his cues as to when he is ready for things.  Why fight nature?

We tried a few cups before we found one that works. Now he does all sippy.

What sippy cup are you using?

So I'm assuming you're still putting formula in his sippy cup?  How many ounces is he drinking a day?

I'm pretty sure he's teething but I think this is more of an issue of just not wanting the bottle anymore.  He's a very good eater as far as solids are concerned and is good at drinking from a straw sippy so maybe he's just ready to get rid of the bottle all together.  I thought breaking the bottle habit would be a challenge but I guess he's proving me wrong with that one!

  • If he drinks from the sippy and not the bottle, I think that's a perfect opportunity to pack up the bottles and be done.  There are plenty of moms on here who would love for their kid to just "decide" to use the sippy.
