Tell me about brownish/reddish discharge/spotting

Had a few contractions last night and noticed more than normal discharge which was brownish color.  Now it is just spotting but a little more reddish color.  The thing is I did not have an internal yesterday nor did I have sex.  So what the hell? Would you call to tell the doc?

Brownish can be left over from an internal or sex or dilation from a few days ago- I think up to 3 days. Red sounds fresh- possibly your bloody show.

It wouldn't hurt to call and ask   Sounds like they could possibly be good signs for you and impending labor!!

I would call just to be on the safe side but as another person posted brownish means it's old blood so it could be left overs from earlier.

Your cervix is VERY vascular. When you have contractions and it puts pressure on your cervix and causes it to stretch which creates little tears in your cervix. Totally normal! As long as its just spotting and not a continual leakage its ok! Its a good sign showing that your cervix is changing.

This is what my MW said.  I had bloody mucus for a couple of days and I went in for my appt after it happened and she said that my baby is super low and when I have BH that the pressure from her head might be pushing blood out too from all of the extra blood flow down there right now.  She didn't seem to be too concerned about it and just told me that it was a good sign that things are changing down there.
