Birthday Party - What time? Search option sucks

I mostly lurk and the search part of the bump never works for me.

What time will your LO's 1st birthday party be? I'm debating between his two naps like at 12 ~ thinking he might need to sleep from all the excitement ~ or like 4. It will be hard to set a time limit as I've seen suggested because our families like to hang around. That means they may still be here when DS goes to bed, but that would be ok.

So, what will you be doing?

Thanks :)

Edit: Also - I was hoping to do heavy appetizers. If I had a 4:00 party, do you think that would be too lame? It's mostly family, but with the time they would expect a dinner?

  • We're having a picnic in the park from 1-3pm

  • We are starting at 1.  We're having it at the park although I'm sure people will end up back at the house to hang out afterwards.

  • We're having a cookout at a state park. Right now we're planning on having it from 4-7pm. People can mingle before dinner, then we'll eat, open presents and have cake to wrap things up.

  • 2 PM for DS #1 and we will do the same for DS #2...DS #1 was way too wired to nap so he just had his morning nap the day of his birthday.  Most kids meltdown at their 1st birthday.

  • DD takes one nap.  We will have the party about 4 with family, with dinner at 5.  Neighbor dessert/drinks about 6.
  • We are doing it at 4:30.  It will just be close family and will be at her grandparents' house.  DH will arrive earlier to get everything ready, I'll bring her at 4:30, and then I'll probably leave around 7 for her to go to bed.

  • ours is 1-3. We tried to take into account the naps of the guests. One girl naps at 2:30 and the older kids nap arund noon. This way most could come for a bit, at least.

  • Ours is starting at noon, but it will probably be an all day event. That's just how the parties go on DH's side of the family.

  • Those are exactly the times I'm deciding between. I'm leaning towards noon, though. I think heavy apps are good at either time, but we'll be doing burgers and hot dogs.

  • We're doing a backyard BBQ from 2pm to 6pm. I have a feeling she'll miss her last nap but if she's got a lot of stimulation she doesn't have a meltdown. I might just keep her up extra long that morning and put her down for a late AM nap.

  • The best way to search the bump boards is to do an advanced search on Google.  Type in what you're looking for and put community.thebump.com in the space that says search within a site or domain.

  • We're doing a BBQ in the backyard at 12:00pm.  DS usually naps from @10-@11.  I put 12-3 on the invitations so that people would have a sense when to scoot so he can wind down and take his afternoon nap.
