We had our 2nd u/s and the dr is concerned that they are not seeing a line dividing the babies, meaning they could be in one sac. Its a very high risk situation and i have a high level u/s around 12w to see if it is there. So scared.
Most don't find the membrane until quite a few weeks later. I know of people who've not seen it until week 20-ish. 7 weeks is really early and things are really tiny at that point. I'm sorry the doctor scared you!
Thank you. He did say that it could very well be there at my 12w u/s. But seemed concerned and said they should have seen it by now. (2 different u/s machines have been used at the office.)
7 weeks is so, so early. They had trouble finding my membrane at 14 weeks, and still had a really hard time at 18 weeks. The u/s tech actually had to call the MFM to come in.
Stop googling. It will not calm your nerves. As hard as it is, relax and try to concentrate on anything else.
It is so scary and so hard, but try not to think about it (easier said than done, I know). Hopefully they'll see a membrane at 12 weeks and then all the worry will have been for not. And if they don't, all the worry still won't do you any good. Good luck.

We also had this concern early on, but at my u/s at 19 weeks they could see the membrane. They thought they saw a thin line at around 13 weeks too, but couldn't say for sure since it wasn't a high tech u/s. Hopefully you will also have one that shows up later. Try not to worry too much...I know that is easier said. Good Luck!!
My twins started in their own sacs, but a procedure I had at 23 weeks poked a hole in the membrane and one baby moved into the other baby's sac. At that point, I was treated as if they were MoMo twins. I had daily NSTs and biophysical profiles and a scheduled C-section at 34 weeks. The doctors gave me the option for delivery any time between 32 and 34 weeks. They said some mothers just want the babies out and others want to keep them in as long as possible. I wanted them in as long as they would let. In the end, I have two healthy baby boys.
I hope they see a membrane at your 12 week ultrasound, but even if they dont, just remember to stay positive. It is scary, but totally doable.
They didn't see a membrane with my twins at first and said they were momo, but later found a very thin membrane. So I suggest not reading a lot on it, because thinking they are momo is very scary! I'm now 35 weeks 4 days and delivering in 10 days!
You can't really call them mo/mo until 2nd trimester. The best time to visualize is early 2nd trimester. The amnion and chorion fuse around 16 weeks.
Certainly it's a scary thought but statistically speaking they're likely mono/di.

This. At 7 weeks, there isn't really a way to see a membrane. At first I was also told mine could be mono/mono, but I had a high-res scan later on (around 12 weeks) and there was clearly a membrane. How many yolk sacks did they see? From what I understand, the number of yolk sacs usually corresponds to the number of amniotic sacs.
Don't panic yet - it's too soon for that. Statistically they are FAR more likely to be mono/di.

I actually called my ob to ask how many yolk sacs were seen. waiting.
They could not see the membrane with my identicals until 12 weeks! Even now at 31 weeks, it is VERY thin & they have a hard time finding it! I know it is difficult, but TRY not to stress yet! Wait & see if they find it in a few more weeks! I cried when they found mine, so I know it is hard!
Our membrane was so tiny that they couldn't see it until 12 weeks and they can only see it from certain angles. We even ended up with 2 placentas for our twinnies. Hang in there!

they also though tmy identicals were momo around 12 wks too. it wasnt until the 18 wks appt where they found the membrane. Hang in there, either way i will be thinking of you!

Re: The twins might only be in one sac. (MoMo)
Really? From what i've been reading on internet it's only like 1% of identicals.
I hope other MoMo Mommas see this.
Anyone else out there misdiagnosed early on?

T&P for your 12 week u/s!

I'm 11 weeks and didn't see a membrane at my appointment this week either. My RE said not to worry there was still time and one might be discovered.
I'm trying to wait until about 20 weeks to freak out
