I never knew that team green...

I never knew that team green...

Would make it so much harder to register for gifts!  We were picking out stuff and a lot of the "gender neutral" stuff seems really boyish!  I know it's worth it, but we ended up not picking out any bedding, for example, because it all looked boyish to me.  I ended up with a lot of "ocean" themed stuff... Which I like.  But I really would've liked to be able to pick out the bedding, sheets, etc.  Doh, well!

  • I can totally relate about the bedding issue. (Team Green here aslo)

Have you looked into making your own or checking out a website like Etsy?

  • I would hold off on bedding if possible. My friend was team green, and did an adorable monkey theme. It was kinda boyish. She had a baby girl, and now there are pink walls, with a ballet theme. Maybe you could exchange to be more gender specific down the road?

  • Yeah, that's why all our bedding will be solid, I think.  I'm doing a LOT of light blue and pale green.  I figure if baby is a girl, I will need to get a couple pink and purple touches to add to the room down the road, but I'm okay with waiting for that (or buying them and keeping the tags on, in the closet, until after the birth, haha).

Yes I think it's a great idea to get the major things in a neutral color scheme (literally neutral - beiges and yellows and things) that will blend with those pink or blue (or whatever) gender-specific colors you might want to add later.  A few key accents can totally swing a room one way or the other.

  • With my DD 5 years ago we were team Green and we did the nursery in Classic Pooh which was pale green and pale yellow. Once she was born we added in pink letters on the wall, pink blankets and pink rug. It worked very well for us. Glad it is that way still since she will have to share her room with the new baby...boy or girl.

  • I completely agree ... in fact, I just don't see why so much baby stuff is either pink or blue to begin with. Even if I did know the gender of our little one, I wouldn't want to be limited to these color schemes or the common gender "themes."

  • We knew but I did gender neutral stuff to save for next baby.

We did Little Lamb Swing and Bouncer

    Green/Grey Chicco Stroller

    Red Car Walker

    Rainforest Bouncer

The bedding is boy and if we have a girl I will gender neutral the room more. It is Woodland Animals now so I am thinking of the Rabbit and deer bedding in mint green brown for a girl or buying another set of what I have for a boy.

  • Our nursery for DS, even though we knew he was a boy, was Pooh stuff and very gender neutral.  It looked great and is coming together really well for baby sister. All the other stuff I got for him, though - that is gender neutral - all of sudden doesn't feel gender neutral at all!  But, we're still using it....  I totally understand what you mean!
  • My friend is team green and she worked out a deal with her mom. She's picked out a girl bedding and a boy bedding and her mom is going to buy both right before baby comes and then whichever baby ends up being they'll keep the right set and her mom will take the other set back. Seems like a lot of work to me, but she's excited about it and it also means that she won't have to have EVERYTHING in green and yellow. HTH
