TV

the tv can totally calm her down... it's bright lights and colors and she likes it. i tend to keep it on during the day for background noise (i hate being alone) and i spend plenty of time playing with her but occasionally i'll just sit here and let her watch on my lap a bit.

of course when she's older it'll be no tv 'til your hw is done and im going to try to keep her active, etc... but when she's 3 months old is a little tv really gonna hurt anyone? she's sitting next to me right now in her bumbo watching real housewives of new york haha. but she did just spend 20 minutes playing with her kicky gym so i dont feel too bad.

thoughts?

Re: TV

  • I do not think a little tv here and there melts their brain as long as they're being interacted with well otherwise.

  • My kids don't "watch" the TV or are ever pointed at the TV on purpose. However, the TV is on in the background for most of the day. When we came home from the NICU they actually recommended it because the babies were SO used to the constant noise, that they couldnt sleep in the dead silence. So its on, but just for the noise.

  • I had the NCAA games on and when I put Drew in the swing, he would just stare at it. I told DH that I should record a game and play it for him when he's fussy! haha

  •  I was baking for a baby shower 3 weeks ago.  I left the tv on for background noise while LO played on his activity mat. He would look at it now and then.  It distracted him from noticing I wasn't there to play with him.

  • Trust me, there are way worse parents out there doing way worse things with their LO's.
