"Mean Girls" in PreK

My DD will be 5 in June, she is in a PreK class this year and there is one girl that is a mean girl.  I had heard about her from some of the other parents when I see them at parties and such but my DD had never spoken about her.  My DD is one of the youngest in the class and has a speech delay.  Twice this week my DD has been really upset when I picked her upped - she told me both times that this little girl was being mean to her and had pinched her.  She told me she did what they have been taught to do, tell the child that they didn't like what they were doing and asking her to stop.  I emailed my DD's teachers last night asking them to keep an eye on the situation and the main teacher was going to talk to my DD this morning (she is the 1st one there) to see if she can get anymore details.  The teachers have not seen any of this.  I hate that at age 4 and 5, there are already mean girls or bullies.  My DD has had a hard time somewhat due to her speech delay and the kids not understanding her (she is in speech therapy and is getting better) but I hate that this is happening already.

Re: "Mean Girls" in PreK

  • It's so disgusting, isn't it?  Just at age 3, DD was coming home telling me about a girl at daycare/preschool who was sabotaging DD's friendships...awful.
  • I am sorry she is having to deal with that in preschool.

  • There is a girl like that in DD's pre-k.  Sadly, no one likes her.  She was kicked out of another preschool previously.  DD mentions her occasionally, like she did this or that, though not to DD.  The good thing about neighbor boy being mean to her, is she has learned to avoid mean.  I feel bad for her.  Her mom is a nut.  She is destined to be the odd one out without a lot of intervention.
