Update from my high risk doctor visit yesterday...

I learned yesterday that I am now considered high risk for 2 reasons one being my cervix because I had a LEEP and 2 being because I carry a part of the Factor IV Leiden mutation I got from my dad.

Because of the Factor IV thing I now have to give myself a shot in my stomach fat for the rest of my pregnancy + 6 weeks after. I am not looking forward to this I dont know if I can even do that?? It might be a job for dh for the next 5 months.

On top of all of this yesterday was my anatomy scan THAT I DID NOT KNOW I WAS GOING TO HAVE!!! I thought this visit was just supposed to talk about the blood mutation thing when I scheduled they didnt mention anything about an ultrasound. I also had an apt scheduled with my regular doctor next week and that is when I thought the big ultrasound would be. So dh didnt get to be there to see our baby girl and that really upset me, I told him not to come to this perinatologist apt.

On the great side that made all of this worth it...our baby girl is perfectly healthy she was so cute yesterday in the ultrasounds. Everything had developed great and she was just a bouncing around!!!!

  • I am really surprised that having LEEP would put you at high risk. I had LEEP done back in 1999-2000 and had a baby in 2005. They never once said anything about being high risk. I had her vaginally with no problems. I am at a new OB now and she knows about the LEEP and doesnt seems alarmed by it either.

I am sorry you DH couldnt be there to see his baby girl.

  • Is your cervix short from the LEEP? I had a LEEP done 6 months ago so mine is still really short which makes me high risk too! Hopefully yours will grow or stay nice and long!

  • Don't worry about the shots.  If you asked me a year ago about giving myself shots, I would have said no way, no how.  But, when we were faced with infertility issues and eventually IVF, I was able to do it rather easily because of the reason for the shots.  Because you need to do them for your health and the baby's, it will come as second nature, just as all of the other things that mothers do for their babies.
