Hey Ladies,
I'm new here, and my sister is 8 weeks pregnant. She is the most important person in the world to me and I want to make sure she has what she needs. She is not the type of person to go to the store and buy everything she wants so I will. I want to know what was your must-have for your pregnancy. A belly band? The Snoogle pillow? Jolly Ranchers? What should I put in her pregnancy kit?
TIA
(btw, I will probably post this on the 1st & 3rd trimester boards so please forgive the multipost)
Re: Pregnancy Must Haves
I used the Be-Band (from Target) a lot during my first and beginning of second trimester (that way you don't have to buy maternity clothes so soon). Also, ginger ale was great for morning sickness.
I don't know where you live, but sundresses (that don't have zippers in the back) have been amazing for me lately since they are so comfy and it is so hot outside. And, I imagine she is buying prenatal vitamins already. If you are putting a basket together, some cocoa butter or cocoa butter lotion might be nice too (although it hasn't really prevented me getting stretchmarks, but it feels amazing).
That is all I can think of for now... good luck for her!
ETA: Oh, like someone else mentioned.... I have a reusable water mug (like the big plastic ones you get from the gas station) that I LOVE. It might be a good idea as well.
I keep adding more.. lol. Yoga pants and/or sweat pants are really super comfy. And, a great, funny book that I loved was "Belly Laughs" or a better, informative book you can get is "Week by Week pregnancy". Before buying those new, you might check a used book store or a Goodwill and get them a lot cheaper.
Pillows...that way I have option on where to place them depending on which body part needs support.
Tums and ginger ale were lifesavers those first few weeks.
Another thing I would have appreciated is having a meal prepared for me. I was so tired that we resorted to a bunch of take out.
First off...What a sweet sister :)That is so nice of you!
Since she's only 8 weeks I would pack some nausea helpers....For me what helped was crackers, pretzels, dry cereal, bubbly seltzer water (was THE BEST EVER...make sure there's no aspartame), and sweet tarts....that was my kit
Water Bottle is a great idea! (I need to drink more too..it's a good reminder)
The water bottle is a GREAT idea. With my M/S sweet-tarts, saltines, mints and blue raspberry jolly ranchers have been my saving grace. =0)
Also, what about some kind of journal or album so she can document all of her thoughts, pictures and firsts throughout her pregnancy. My mom got me "The Belly Book" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, and it's been so fun to document everything along the way. AND, if she's really in to taking pictures, what about going to pickysticky.com? They have Mama (and baby) stickers (which are decals you peel and put on your shirt). They say, "8 wks, 12, wks, 16 wks, it's a boy/girl" etc. Fun little things to do along the way! =0) Have fun and I'm sure your sister will LOVE whatever you do for her. =0)
I also enjoyed reading "Belly Laughs" it was quick, funny and easy to get through.I also bought, "What to Expect when your expecting and What to Expect:Eating
Well." How about a subscription to a Pregnancy Magazine?"
I also used the BellaBand from Target, I bought one in white and black.
My next purchase is the Snoogle pillow. Plan to pick one up this weekend.
Def. get a preg. journal. I have "The Pregnancy Organizer" by Paula-Ford Martin.
Everyone is different but here are some of my faves, so far: (maybe you could but what you think she would like the best together in a little basket)
HUGE ( go through TONS of water and a small water bottle does not cut it for me)water bottle (I know some PPs mentioned this), various hard candies or suckers in case m/s hits, Palmers Cocobutter Lotion (not necesarily for strech marks but the dry skin--It is my fave!), granola bars or small packs of trail mix for her purse or bag, small bags/packs of crackers for huger or m/s, pillows, pillows, pillows, pregnancy tea. Also you could throw in anything that would make her feel good like a bright toenail polish, some calming body wash or even a cooling foot lotion or some flip flops.
Again, these are just my faves so far.
GL to your sister. I think this is a great thing to do for her.
You're so sweet! DEFINITELY a snoogle pillow, I've been using mine since like 10 weeks. Also, at a lot of the pregnancy stores you can get these sour preggie pop candies - they help with nausea. As for clothing, I know some of the stores have kits that have tank tops, skirts and pants all in a box as a little everything you need kind of thing.
You are sweet and it is nice that you are thinking about this early!
At 35 weeks, I very much agree with the water bottle of some sort. I have a few around my house and one at work. It is much easier to drink more water if you have a cute glass to drink out of.
I have lived in flat, slip on shoes. Flip flops or others that slip on. As the belly gets bigger, it get harder to tie those shoes!
Have fun!!!!!
Ginger chews are great and healthy for nausea. Dried papaya and pineapple are yummy and aid in digestion. Pregnancy Yoga goes a long way with indigestion.
There is a new organizer out I LOVE. Pregnancy Organizer: 40 weeks + has everything she will need through the pregnancy, birth, and right after baby gets here. It's a Free iPad app. It has every checklist, chart, form, questionnaire, detail you need. If she doesn't have an iPad that would be great for any pregnant or nursing mom. It can get boring when you nurse. I wish I had my iPad during that time. You can read a book with the swipe of a finger and you don't need a light on that will wake up the baby too much. I am going to bring my iPad to every Dr. appointment. Read a book in the waiting room, then fill out my record keeper on my APP. I wish I had both of those during my 1st pregnancy!
Here is a link for the App:https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/forty-weeks/id445549909?mt=8 There is a print version for sale too if she doesn't have an iPad yet!
